Preparing for winter IV

I've finally given in and put the winter quilt on the bed. Along with the fleece bed linen. I cannot believe how cold it's been this past week. Is that the summer over then?0

It certainly feels it, couldn't believe how cold it was when I stepped out this morning!0

We have ours on too and the warm fluffy socks are being used already xxx0 -

I got up to let the dogs out about 5 the other morning and it was actually cold, it felt almost frosty. I'm not complaining though as I love it, it was nice to go back to bed and curl up in my super soft blanket.:)timehastoldme wrote: »

I woke up at 6am this morning absolutely freezing, I got up grabbed a single quilt usually used on the sofa (all the livingroom stuff is in my room while we decorate) and got back into bed under it :rotfl: Can't currently get to my blankets etc due to the chaos. Hopefully I can get to them next week as my bedroom is next on the hit list

My mum had her heating on this morning when I went down, but she is in her seventies. Littlies have been wearing pyjamas the last few nights, have been in just undies for months, and they're both wearing fleece jumpers on top of t-shirts today - both got cold hands for the first time in months!
I'm in the middle of some major de-cluttering, nightmare but have found the other glove to several odd ones, so have no woollies to buy for the littlies - result!
We also need to gut the pantry, just going to paint the whole thing with masonry or garage floor paint until spring, then I can re-stock for the winter - my squirrel gene is waking up now! :rotfl:

My littlies have been out in fleeces today too, cold hands as well! We are just settling down to watch a film and I've put the big fluffy blankets over the leather sofas to make it more cosy.
My thermostat is on 17deg and the heating flicked on this morning  I've switched it off, I'm not ready to give in yet.

Hi everyone,
Hope you don't mind me joining in! There's only little old me at home so no-one to bounce idea's off, or too ruin my plans for reducing energy costs as much as possible
I've started my cold winter prepping but have a long way to go yet and keep hitting problems.
I've lost weight this year so my winter clothes no longer fit, including my coat so I'm going to have to find replacements. I'm thinking its probably going to be best to start visiting the charity shops to see if I can find some bargains that will get me through this winter.
I also need new pj's as mine are all thin and hanging off me. I was wondering though if any of you had any idea how I can stop a terry toweling dressing gown from leaving bits of fluff everywhere? My mum gave me a really thick full length dressing gown a few years ago but its pink and my sofa's are black fabric and I have grey carpet through out the house. Whenever I wear the dressing gown I leave a trail of fluff wherever I go
Also where is the best place to buy decent door curtains to block out drafts? I don't have a sewing machine so cant make my own. I've seen some on eb*y that seem popular but they're £15 each0 -
We are loving the wool duvet set from the wool room. It drapes beautifully. Ordered on Monday and arrived on Wednesday. No complaints at all.
DS is away for the weekend so I've stripped his bed and washed everything. I've also got the bed throws out.
It's given the temperature to drop to 1c tonight, bit chilly for August, feels more like the back end of September.
