Preparing for winter IV

PM2326 I use ordinary jamjars for tealights, with no lid on or they can't burn. We've used them for years since the girls were little and they christened them 'Glow Worms!'. We started using the jars when we had barbecues outside and they give off a very good light too.0

Well thats the last of the duvets whirling around the washing machine, rainy day here so over the clothes horse it will go then on the bed. Getting chilly here , i put my heat on last night first time on for months felt lovely. Just 2 living room rugs for sofa to wash and im all set. Did my door curtain last night so wait till get it ironed and up and i be ready for winter. I think its going to be a bad one this year as its so cold in august. Lets hope im wrong xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Can anyone point me in the direction of some idiot proof soup recipes please. They all seem so complicated and I'm a complete novice!0

I chuck random veg, left over gammon or chicken in my slow cooker with chicken stock and cook on low for 8 or so hours then either mash or part hand blender it. I've never had a bad one yet but do season towards to the end.
Parsnips, curry or masala powder, chicken stock made in 200mls water, just enough for the parsnips to sit in but not totally cover, cook on low 8hrs, hand blender till smooth, season to taste and enjoy. Can also add chopped bacon or gammon to add another level.
Leeks, potatoes, one leek to 3 pots ratio, 250mls chicken stock, black pepper, salt and cook as above, part blend and sprinkle grated Cheddar on top to eat.
I tend to put less liquid then add a bit of stock afterwards if it's too thick as too much water in the sc dilutes flavour.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

This thread is making me feel so snuggly and warm. We are having a pj day today, we were meant to go out for our pre wedding photo's today but the weathers abit bleak!
It is feeling a little chilly today, even indoors but we've snuggled under 2 fleece blankets and a hot water bottle we've managed another day without the heating! Not been on since match/April timePAD 2023 Debt total as of Dec 2022 £18,988.63*April £17,711.03

Having an autumnal feeling day here, both DD's are out and after being soaked many times yesterday I am not chancing the rain here in Cornwall again today.
Slow cooker is simmering a chilli con carne and I have just used up the spoilt banana's in a loaf in the oven, smelling sooooo yummy.
:It's so lovely to cozy up and have days like this, I love this time of year, house is warm from cooking and winter preps are a plenty.
Happy hibernating, working long shifts on a hospital ward makes me very thankful to have these full days at home every so often.:TThriftkitten

I've also read this thread for years. Thought I'd sign up! Very wet and grim here in Sussex today. I've been crocheting and I'm starting to think of the things I need to do this Autumn. I have some Winter cabbages to plant out where the potatoes were. I also need to pot up some Parsley for the winter - to grow on the kitchen windowl. I love Autumn almost as much as I love Spring.0

Thank you so much for the Little House on the Prairie mention. I am in the mood for something like that myself just now
Eager to make the elderberry syrup. I made it last year and can honestly say I think it's the best damn medicine I have had!
I am going to look at my medicine basket and have a good sort out (as soon as I have finished my coffee in fact) but I won't be investing in much apart from Manuka honey. I figure the amount I would spend on cough mixture this and that and for different ages, I would be fine investing £10 or so in something natural and multi purpose - I am thinking wound help too.
Lap fleeces are washed and the blanket box is in position in the lounge.
I am crocheting a 100% woollen scarf for myself but other than that our stocks of extremity wear is just fine.
I have built up an electric credit over the summer but still intend on keeping the heating down to as minimum as possible.0 -
I picked up a strength 10 Manuka Honey in Aldi for £4.99 to go in the medicine chest on Friday if that's any use?0

Oh now that is perfect Lyn
Thank you!
