    Hi all,
Have been looking at the mattress covers and pillows in wool to go with the wool duvet I bought, from the,' never knowingly undersold' store! Really good value for these as well. The duvet, kingsize, was £140 and made in Devon.
Sorted out fleeces, warm trousers and socks for walking the hound, as well as looking out the waterproof jackets x2 and wellies ready for the winter.Found the pattern for I had to knit more fingerless mitts, next to sort through the wool stash for yarn.
Meds to check and elderberry and clove syrup to make for the inevitable coughs and colds, should be well on the way then.
    Caz
    Saving for another hound :j

    COMBI BOILER

I live in a well insulated one bedroom upstairs flat and I had a combi boiler installed towards the end of last winter to run my central heating so I didn’t have time to work out the most economical way to use it.

According to age concern the optimum temperature for someone of my age is 21c in the living room and at least 18c in the bedroom I noticed last winter that once it reached 21c it then switched off and it held the heat for hours then once the temperature dropped the combi kicked in again so my question is which is the most economical way to use a Combi. Thanks

If you ask on the energy board you might get best replies.I am a bit random with mine. As and when needed.

I prefer to drop the heat to about. 16-18'c if I am chilly I put on a jumper or get a blanket. I don't have heating on in my room it is impossible for me to sleep when it's too warm so it is just residual heat from the rest of the house in there. I found leaving heating on low all the time kept the house warmer than having it on a timer and cut my energy use by about £20 a month.

I also added draught proofing everywhere, fleece door curtains and kept doors closed internally with windows pen for an hour or so each day to ward off damp spots.. Old house likes to develop mouldy corners!!

I have seen some in marks and spencer about £80 but not very heavyweight, but a good topper quilt or bedspread thing
That underneath with a feather or down quilt on top should be enough even for scotland

Well yesterday most of my summer gear was put away and the winter gear is on standby. Just listened to the weather forecast and the nights are starting to get abit chilly.x
:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.00
  • This is also helpful regarding emergency kit for the car boot. It's a blog from the states, but a good list. I used to live in Minnesota, where an emergency car kit was an absolute must (and we used them a couple times!!).

Also, I saw some wellie socks (thicker pairs) at Poundland recently and picked up a few pairs.
    Saving, decluttering and doing alright.

Feeling a tiny bit back-endish this morning, have had a nice bowl of porridge with dark sugar on, very autumnal! Have started washing all the dressing gowns this morning, fleece blankets next.

Our heating won't be on for ages yet, and I am going to put an extra £10 each fortnight into my energy account from September, to ensure there's credit there when we do need it on.

Our car needs a major valet, inside and out, so that's another job for this week, and then I can re-organise my car box ready for the new term.

We are all ok for woollies and winter coats, but we could all do with wellies, and I need a new brolly - gosh what a lot of 'l' words! :rotfl:

The brambles are ready round here, so I feel a few manic picking sessions coming on, all going in the freezer as we pick ready for a whole day of jam making.

    A xo
