Thanks Kittie. I'm braving the shops soon, I have written out a meal plan and will buy extra for the freezer. It's looking a bit bare as it was full of stuff for Christmas Day/Boxing Day. I don't want to run out of essentials.

  • Uh oh! i'm East midlands so I should really be making sure the house is stocked up. We have done really well the past few days and been eating left overs from Christmas dinner and buffet items we bought. I plan to go to town tomorrow so I should really get some bits in just in case. We have a breadmaker now so I will stock up on ingredients for that and buy some UHT milk and juice for the cupboard.

I have loads of torches and candles on hand for power cuts and blankets are everywhere. Hope everyone is well! xxx

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

    Hmmmm....

I have used some basics up over the last few weeks, think I need to do a restock too and re-buy some stuff in. Along with more de-icer for car etc if it's going to be bad.

I quite like being snowed in...for a couple of days...but hate having to try to get to places...work in particular.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Oh please say we will have a spot or 2 of the white stuff down here in the south west... Although I'm sure we will just have the rain as per!

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
I'd like any nasty weather to stay away from the Lakes down the Liverpool over New Year until the 2nd January night time. :o DD is currently at her dads then travelling to Barrow for a New Years party with her dads family on New Years Eve, then back to his on New Years Day then home to Liverpool the 2nd. Then the weather can do what it likes until the 6th when its back to school/work for us. :p

I've set the house temperature to 18C as default now, except overnight when its 16C as I've been getting very cold despite layering up. I even had the heating AND fire on yesterday despite being snuggled under a quilt & fleece blanket  That is unheard of in this house, but I eventually warmed up and turned the fire off then went to bed when I started getting chilly again.

I have more prep I need to do before next winter. I have no chance of doing it now as I don't have the money to 'spare' so I'm going to write a list up in priority order and see how much its going to cost to do the jobs, then work through them slowly as I have the money.

I've told my landlady the windows are really draughty, one window has a broken lock (UPVC not quite locked open, but not shut either so there is a breeze coming through it, can't stuff the 'gap' as its a groundfloor window and I don't want it to be obvious that its 'open' for security sake), another 2 are dodgy and I can't lock them with keys and the back/front doors are really draughty as well. I'm waiting to see what happens now. I've been here 10 years this coming June and everything seems to be going wrong at the same time. :(

I am slowly getting on top of the mould problem though :D I've found something that works, now I just need to redecorate to cover the staining. The landlady has said she'll give me £100 towards decorating in a few months so I'll spend that on stain blocker & lining paper so I can re-wallpaper in the worst effected rooms. Paint is not a problem, its paying for the other things that is!
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

PC has updated his public forum page, relatively lots more hints on it. No more from me sorry but if travel is essential and you can afford the winter sub then it is well worth it

    Thank you Kittie.

Just getting over the "almost" hurricane, I don't live far from where almost 100MPH winds were reported yesterday!

I have cupboards & freezer full of food, including frozen loaves. I won't need to touch anything in there now, as I still have loads that need eating in the fridge.
My SIL freezes milk, I never have, but I would now............if I could squash another pieces of anything edible into the freezer!

Bought some snow type, waterproof fur lined boots in a sale seen on HUKDeals, and have had thermals for years from a past profession ready.

I am not in work until 2nd January, but have a rural, 20 miles to drive to work.......not in a 4x4 either! My survival kit is already in the car (well fleece blanket, willies, cereal bars & water) and luckily I do have some flexi-time owing on my clock at work, which I'll take if the roads look like they are getting bad.
I think it was January this year when we had snow, took me 3.5 hours to get home (journey usually 35 mins) because I didn't leave when the snow started falling.
When I got in I went straight into a hot bath, not because of the cold-but because of the stress in my arms & shoulders from driving, and not touching the brakes-although I did twice and skidded -luckily I was driving at about 10 mph at time!

Another worry is the DD is nearly 8 months pregnant, and driving 20 miles in the other direction to work, isn't starting maternity leave until mid January.

Off to take stock of snow survival kits now!!!

Thank you for the heads up.

willies in the emergency kit could constitute entertainment i suppose, just be sure to include some condoms as well :rotfl:
