Same here Toozie. Our skylight blew right out with a hell of a bang and we had a bit of panic as the HA emergency repair line seems to be unmanned today! had to get my son who is a joiner to come over and board it up. Back garden full of glass and rain still battering the windows. Worse forecast for tomorrow too. And the neighbour's brand new Audi has 2 wheelie bins on top of it!

 How awful! I don't envy you living there in this weather.... when it is fine... perhaps a little envious ;)

bicarb is also great for removing smells, i use it a lot when the fridge gets the whiff of fish or onions about it, plus once you're done using it to remove odours you can then make a paste of it and clean something with it before washing it down the sink etc

oh yes and if you then add some warm vinegar down the sink after the bicarb it helps clean out some junk in there, so 3 uses from the same lot of bicarb, not a bad deal!

Would that be the same as bicarbonate of soda (for baking) - please excuse my ignorance. If so, will give it a try and thank you.

I also live in the Peak District and don't want snow. It's a nightmare just getting out of our estate if it snows. The council only grit the main roads and bus routes. We've had to club together and buy a grit bin for our road and if it doesn't get used this year I will be very happy

Well I'm being selfish really Thirzah, after 30 years of struggling out in it and home in it (nightshift) I now enjoy just looking at it LOL

It does look lovely on the tops of the hills-so long as it stays there and we don't get it down here.

I must admit to enjoying the odd "snow day" when we have a good excuse not to go out but hate the days afterwards when we have to struggle down the hill in the slush

yes, sorry, i'm american by birth (got out as fast as i could! :rotfl:) so i suppose my shortened name for it might not be the same as it is for most people here, in the states bicarbonate of soda is baking soda so for me bicarb is a nice shorter version :p

I'm not American and my family say bicarb for bicarbonte of soda and I use it for cooking, cleaning and getting rid of smells.

  • ferocious winter jan oop n and e, I am glad I am going no-where in early or mid jan. I am going to send a copy to my ds up in scotland, we are allowed to share with family circle

any more info needed for plans then it might be worth your while to get a temporary sub, he has a good special offer on at the mo. Going anywhere on the specific dates might well cost more than the sub, thinking about being stranded and getting a bashed car, or worse
