Preparing for winter IV

We've had a couple of cold days, frost one night, but that's it for now, thankfully!
Today I made a new curtain for the bathroom, half price fitted sheet from sainsbugs, factor in net wire and hooks, and it cost well under a fiver. Sounds better in there already, it's well gathered so should keep out the worst of the cold and draughts. As it's a sheet, I can just chuck in the wash now and again!. Going back to said SM to see if I can get a couple of KS sheets, same offer, to make door curtains. Got some spare !kea fleeces to attach to them, so will be warmer. DH fitted door draught excluder things tonight, the type with a rubber 'brush' at the bottom.
We all have plenty of woollies, just going to get a few cheap scarves for spares, and the clothing's sorted. I have a M&S voucher to spend, but will have to go to a bigger branch than ours to find something, want a decent coat or big cardi.
Tomorrow I'm going to a couple of local farm shops to suss out their meat and veg, maybe buy a few things for the freezer if there are any good deals.
Keep warm, peeps!

Yesterday we had a Force 10 from Iceland blowing right through the back (north facing) of the house. I'm going up to the shops today to get a thermal door curtain and some bubblewrap - but wanted to know what to use to weight the bottom of the curtain?0

Mar, you can buy something by the yard to go in the bottom hem of curtains to weigh it down, it's sort of small lead weights encased in fabric, think it comes in different sizes/weights. Find it in sewing, haberdashery or curtain shops. HTH.
Milder this morning, but we've had torrential rain on and off since yesterday evening. Going to empty the small freezer and switch off to defrost and clean. We're using up the ancient stuff over the next week or so, then I can re-stock both freezers for Christmas and winter.

Ok ty, will hunt online for that. Went through back bedroom and found al the papers blown off the comp desk onto the floor. That's with double glazing shut tight too - a northerly blows right though this house lol0

mardatha - I have sewn some old washers into the hem of my door curtain - keeps it stuck firmly to the floor when the north wind rattles through my ancient door.
We used to sew them into the "tails" of evening dress for dancing blokes in the musicals to make them hang right - and same solution for curtains works perfectly.

My granny used 2p coins sewn into the fabric to weigh the curtain bottoms down.0 -
Brilliant ta, got plenty washers and if I run out of them then can raid the penny jar0

A thick big hem helps too. But it might still blow. I find tucking the door curtain behind a sausage draught excluder is the best way of keeping the gales out. Fortunately here in the Peak District in the olden days they built houses without doors, or even many windows, on the north side but it's still pretty draughty. Brr roll on May. I wake up every morning at the moment with trepidation at whether any more white stuff has landed. Such a relief to draw back the curtains and see it's gone overnight!0

Those thingies called sinkers that fisherman use are quite a nice weight. My daughter in law has some that she bought attached to clip on thingies that she puts on the corners of her table cloth when they eat out in the garden, which stops it blowing around if it's windy.
You can buy them loose from a shop that sells fishing tackle and sew a few into the hems, leaving a hole on one side so you can remove them and then replace them when you have washed the curtain.Felines are my favourite

Yes I know what sinkers are, and they would be ideal, if I could get some. TY.0
