Preparing for winter IV

NOT YET!! winter can't come until after pay day on friday
actually we'd be OK for supplies (although the food would be dull), but I need to crack on this weekend with finishing the undercurtains and draft excluders and christmas presents and get the car serviced/MOT'd.

Oh no :-(
Winter please dont start this week. I am paid Tuesday so feel free to start as of Friday but not this week
I currently have done nothing to winter proof the house yet other than putting a fleece up in side my daughters curtains but this was more to block the early morning summer sun than heat proof for the winter.
I only have nets on my bedroom at present, my son has a blind but no curtains and I have now moved his bed from being under the window so he doesn't catch drafts.
Really need to do a stock up shop - as we are up in the sticks as well and although I have to do the school run which has a little shop near it - its one of only two shops in the village so they charge extortionate rates for a bottle of milk, and when the weather is bad my village is prone to mudslides on one end, flooding etc and when there's snow the buses don't run so a lot of us are cut off from civilisation :-/
Really need to get my butt in gear and stocked up......think I will do a shop ready so I only need to press buy when Im paid.
Owen has found a good butcher who he can buy bulk chicken breasts from so I think I will get him to get a few more of those when he goes back to work - a big box is £24 but its lovely chicken and good sized breasts...:rotfl:
right off to make a plan of action. Also I have Ebay items to listTime to find me again0 -
Would you be able to find some cheap curtain in a charity shop?
In the local hospice shop (although you may have to travel a bit to get to one?) they sell curtain for about £3/£5 a pair, some are lined too.:j0 -
Youngest DS now has a pair of walking boots and some good waterproof gloves, essential for snowballing! He has a bit of a walk to school now so both are essentials.
Still need to sort out the boys curtains. Their room will then be finished. I am hoping to get curtains sorted next weekend. The cupboards are well stocked but we are a big family so stocks diminish quickly.
Keep warm.

i got the hall window fleece curtains hung up and a door curtain and it's made a huge difference to how warm the hall is. you no longer descend the stairs in the morning into this pit of cold before entering into the living room/ kitchen where thankfully it's always warmer
also the door curtain is hiding and ugly pipe and keeping the neighbours cigarette smoke out of my hallway too, for which my stomach is very grateful *cough cough*
even though it's just a tension rod out about 3 inches from the door in a recess for the door rather than a portiere rod i managed to close it behind us when we went away for a few days. it's those kind of curtains with the mahoosive rings in it, i put one in front of the other for a double layer, anyway i just pull it part way closed, step out, close the door most of the way and reach up and grab the curtains and pull it the rest of the way closed, then when i come home, i open the door a small bit, reach up, pull it back a little and open the door gently which pushes it back easily, problem solved!
the cigarette neighbour gave me the curtains (ironic isn't it that they are being used to keep her stench out of my house? :rotfl:) so all i paid was £8 i think it was for the rod, yay :T
it was quite nippy this morning in edinburgh whilst waiting for the bus to pick us up to get us back to the trains station so we could go home but it was bright and clear and crisp and we got to see them getting ready for the christmas faire, can't wait!0 -

+1 for it can't be winter til I'be been paid & done the start of month Big Store Stockup shop.
The menfolk get a bit tetchy when pasta or rice is served more than once a day....0 -
Is that the German market in the Gardens Confuzz?
yes but it also includes a french market and for some years they've had a scottish section as well as rides and ice skating etc etc it's always festive and fun even if it is quite cold sometimes
they've got a new wheel this year, it looks more solid, is turned perpendicular to the old position so you can have a better view and the cabs are enclosed and look less, hmmm, wobblymight actually have to go on it this year, the old one was fun the first few times but then you just get cranky and cold after that

I'll try and go up to see it, thanks0
