yes, make sure you have stores in for next week too. Really bad now, worse than that storm. 1/4 million had long power cuts so be prepared, including matches
the forecast for the coming week, does it reach scotland? i'll buy in a few more quick to fix things if need be, i'm pretty much set for everything else0 -

Its awfully windy here tonight. Its been bad all day, within 5 minutes we had rain, hail, wind, thunder, sun and a beautiful rainbow. Never seen so much variety in a short space of time.
But tonight its bad. I can hear something rattling above me. I hope to god it won't fly off. DH has gone to the pub and I think I'll be calling him soon to come home!
Lights have been flickering all night but luckily stayed on.0 -
It was windy here last night, the neighbours lost their shed roof.

It was fierce here last night, too, but no obvious damage. Died down a bit now, but cool. We had the heating on earlier, first time in a morning this autumn.
We're having HM bacon and lentil soup for tea, to use up some stuff, and I think I'll dig out my BM and have a go with it!
Keep safe and warm, peeps!

it's been very windy here too but i don't think it's quite as bad as it is for those of you down south
temps are set to go down to 1C tonight with a real feel of -1 i've noticed all this week the daytime temps are at 5-8C but the real feels are much lower at 1-5C, having been out to the shops yesterday i can agree with the real feel! i had to put on my winter jacket a hat and gloves for a bit, it was only when i stopped into a charity shop that i felt too warm with it all on, but then the cs always seems a bit stuffy to me, like it's part and parcel of running one or something
oh well i know where to hang out if i can't afford the heat in my flat, right? :rotfl:
today we'll be rewarming some HM pumpkin soup, i'm trying to talk my daughter into making some cornbread or pumpkin pie to take the edge off but she's not having any of it, sadly i have a pile of work to catch up on today so no baking for me...
hope everyone is staying warm and safe0 -
kittie - Thanks for all of the nudges in the right direction!:coffee:

Hi guys,
I have most(!) Of my preps done but have a quick question - my flat is currently 13 degrees throughout. I don't feel it as cold, and the kitten seems ok (with the fur coat n all lol). Does anyone know if I should be concerned at this temp or is it more a keep gentle moving (housework) and consider putting the heating on later? I live alone now so don't have an extra body to tell me if I'm mad and its freezing or not! In or around Gasgow and its very dry atm if that affects it.
Thanks:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
If you're in good health and keeping mobile all day and it doesn't feel cold to you then I wouldn't worry about it. I know there are guidelines about keeping certain temps indoors, but they generally apply to the very young, very old and those with health/mobility problems. After all - we wouldn't all be warned to stay indoors if the outside temp was 13 degrees.
tonight's prep will be adding interlining to the "under curtains" for my room (the proper curtains are on wooden poles that stand proud of the wall - pretty much useless) - I've one large bay and another window in there - have put up the pole for the small window - close to the glass. But can't quite work out how to do the bay - think I might have to get a length of copper pipe and bend it into shape to fit under the wooden poles.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
re house temperatures and being of the right age and having the wherewithall, I have put two thermostatically controlled heaters out, one up on the landing and one downstairs in the sitting area which is open plan. Upstairs is 18 and downstairs is 21. The upstairs one hasn`t come on at all yet and the downstairs one only twice for a short time since 7 this morning. The house is insulated to its max
I am no longer stressed re picking ds up on 8th, downgrade for sw. I wouldn`t be so happy if I lived in the n and ne and going down the e coast. Watch the pressure maps and see the swirl coming down from scandinavia, that is what you need to watch, that and falling temperatures and if you are fast learners, dew point and humidity

interesting stuff. I had to give geography up at age 13 at school but have since studied oceanography as well as physics, oh and geology and homeopathy and knitting and home making. I wonder how the brain stores all the info0
