We did virtually the same thing, hot water bottles were wrapped in a towel and popped in a pillow case. I'd happily do this for my own children but they have both received HWB with covers for presents when they were younger, so they happily use these.

Are venetian blind enough to keep in heat, its a wide living room window.

I made lined curtains this year, floor length, but just single width for show, as I couldnt face the extra hassle of joining fabric and the extra work involved.
I have loads of fabric left, so any ideas? to get lining for another pair adds to the cost! and would then cover the radiator as they are floor length.
  • I have a question, instead of fleece I have found some old thick curtains in the back of the cupboard and attached them to my curtains for some insulation - will this make a difference or will it need to be fleece??

Mine was wrapped in a towel and had to be kept under the covers over night as it froze when flung out of bed!:eek::eek:

My children have no idea! .. I'd forgotten about this.

Vala, I'm sure the curtains will be perfect and not require adjusting/sewing etc.

    .

I have the same problem. Some of our windows only have a couple of inches of wall between the window sill and the radiator.
We have wooden blinds on just about every window. The rooms just don't feel cosy during the winter months.
The plan is, when funds allow, to replace the laminate with carpet, keep the blinds but add curtains that hang just below the sill, careful measuring required!

If anyone has tried this I would be very grateful for your thoughts.

Many thanks, this looks good! CS never have anything big enough, or 2 pairs in similar fabrics, so I know I'll have to buy fabric to make. :(

Extra curtains should work a treat. I use fleece as it is cheap and light weight, but if I had suitable curtains I would use them back to back. The external doors from our kitchen, directly opposite each other - can cause a terrific draft, are covered by a pair of heavy weight double sided blanket lined curtains which we bought in a cs, I would change the pattern of the fabric in a flash but only if they were as insulating.

Bargain kids fleeces here - 70% off some of them and still got good range of sizes! I have bought the kids ones before and they are great quality, wash well and last.
