The wind has really picked up here. Gusts of over 30mph I was going to head up to Home Bargains in Reading but looking at the trees swaying, I decided to stay at home.0

yes, make sure you have stores in for next week too. Really bad now, worse than that storm. 1/4 million had long power cuts so be prepared, including matches0 -

Well it's turning chilly here in West London. Cold-ish wind this evening, but heating still off and comfortable. Good while it lasts, but I have all at hand now, including flanelette sheets, warm fleece blankets and jackets, and two pairs of snuggly socks for indoor wear.
I also have a large bag of salt ready, as outside of the front door there's always an icy patch in very cold weather, which you step on as you leave the house. The other flats' occupants aren't bothered, but I nearly slipped once (and if you fall hard with your coccyx on the doorstep you could do be out of action for months), so as soon as I see a hint of ice I put down a good dusting of salt. I also pour some down the various drains when it's really cold to keep the pipes from freezing.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

depends where you are, friday is the day I have my fingers crossed for
something good has come from the wind. Dh as usual has a major problem in getting me something that I would really like for christmas and it doesn`t help that I am a contented soul who really needs nothing. We were discussing the wind gusts just now and both wondering what the speed was, christmas problem solved at a stroke. We are getting a joint present ie a very good weather station with an anemometer. We have the ideal situation for it ie a fence that is around our garden, 3m higher than the house ground floor, in the open, bordering a grassy field and facing south
re weather and people`s interest. There really are quite a few hints on https://www.weatheraction.com

Baileys_Babe wrote: »Extra curtains should work a treat. I use fleece as it is cheap and light weight, but if I had suitable curtains I would use them back to back. The external doors from our kitchen, directly opposite each other - can cause a terrific draft, are covered by a pair of heavy weight double sided blanket lined curtains which we bought in a cs, I would change the pattern of the fabric in a flash but only if they were as insulating.
:rotfl:
The curtains I found have a somewhat questionable colour/design as well as being mismatched but I figured they were going behind my current curtains so its only the neighbours that would have to see them! :rotfl:
I also made that stupid mistake of not tying a knot in the threads that you pull at the top to make them shorter (sorry I cant think what its called) It left me with a half crinkled/half smooth curtain and me shaking my head at myself!Simplify and then Simplify some more!0
