I've found some snowboots for the littlies in s@insb, £13/14 each, plus 25% off this weekend, and returned the ones I bought in n&xt, £23/4! So two pairs for less than one in dearer shop, result!

Pigpen, my external doors are about 3 feet by 7 feet, dunno what that is in new money! If all else fails, I'll buy 2 cheap sheets, but am off to look on the website aggypanthus mentioned.

Cold and wet here now, littlies still in pjs, me with 2 layers on, DH asking for fleece top, heating not on! Off to a family party at teatime, host keeps her house roasting, so we'll be glad to come back to a cooler place! :rotfl:

Cheapskate - I just bought my eldest some snow boots in Lidl for £9.99
    Lovely lined ones.

Our stair curtain seems to be working, even thought it looks a little odd halfway up the stairs!

I bought some warmer thermal curtains for our office as we spend so much time in here.:D

I have to take down the old nets and curtains to wash them and put them away, then polyfiller in the little holes, clean the windows and put up new curtains and a sheer curtain.

What an exciting Saturday I have planned!:rotfl:

I've gone way to the other side with prep for winter.

DH & his pal have just finished laying down my patio for the summer!!!

LOL! but one good thing is I can clear the garden out now & have a tidy up. Job for tomorrow!

I have a question, instead of fleece I have found some old thick curtains in the back of the cupboard and attached them to my curtains for some insulation - will this make a difference or will it need to be fleece??

any heavy curtains will help stop the cold coming through, fleece is just cheap and light so it doesn't need as much or as strong hardware to accomodate the extra weight

i read a study that glasgow university did on insulation values for old homes and wooden shutters came up very high on the list so if anyone is blessed with those, use them!

I have the same problem. Some of our windows only have a couple of inches of wall between the window sill and the radiator.
We have wooden blinds on just about every window. The rooms just don't feel cosy during the winter months.
The plan is, when funds allow, to replace the laminate with carpet, keep the blinds but add curtains that hang just below the sill, careful measuring required!

If anyone has tried this I would be very grateful for your thoughts.

in the past i've just folded up the extra length of curtain and tucked it onto the sill, that really helps keep the cold out! easier if you have deep sills but know that you don't have to worry if it's a little longer than you might want if you have enough sill to rest the excess on, to avoid wrinkles you can lightly roll up the excess if there is a lot of it

Thanks Confuzzled, that is a good idea. The extra length would sit on the sill. If there was not too much extra length the curtain may fit behind the radiator.
I can now picture in my head how it would work. Brain is overworked at the moment, lots going on.

    Thanks again

very very windy here in somerset, as much as the st jude (or should i say piers corbyn) storm. Weather is bang on target, you know what I mean

Bought some ready meals in tins today as it feels better to have something quick in ie just heat on the gaz if needed

Apple trees are really bending, I knew this was going to happen via piers and weatheraction. We had an appointment 45 miles away and made sure it was at 9 so are nicely tucked in at home and not driving

Two lakeland towel rails are on all day at the moment, just about 50w each so are economical and keep the background warmth going

I hope not thriftkitten but if snow then we sw are more likely to get sleet at first but pity help us if very cold as well or it will be blizzards, all starts off in sw (all fingers crossed as we have to travel on 8th). East side uk severely affected (but be aware that 20% chance it won`t happen)
