At least it sounds scary on the internet - the weather forecast I saw yesterday said it would be breezy.
I remember the aftermath of the storms of 87. I don't remember much about the actual storm as I slept through it. I got up at 5 and let my cat out and thought "it's windy out there." and then went back to bed.
We are surrounded by tall trees that tower over the houses. I will be retreating downstairs if it is as bad as they say because my bedroom is under a huge oak tree.0 -
We are holidaying in a log cabin in the middle of a forest at the moment. We are heading home early Monday. Really hoping we are all going to be safe.

I slept through the '87 storm - always been a gold medallist sleeper, and was very surprised and delighted to find all 6 fences between my back garden and my best friend's had been blown down. We cherished having an enormous shared garden until the fences were repaired, and enjoyed helping all the neighbours inbetween try and put their gardens back together again.
Now as an adult I can appreciate how worrying it must have been, especially with the lack of warning. Be safe everybody. x0 -
I live in the channel islands and all charts at the moment show us having it really bad. I've gone round the whole of the property with my DH and checked everything. Already suggested to him that we each sleep in the childrens rooms, during the storm of 1987 a warehouse down the round from me collapsed (luckily no one injured). You shouldn't under estimate the power of wind.
My kiddies will be sleeping in my bedroom with me tomorrow night. We are holidaying in a log cabin in the middle of a forest at the moment. We are heading home early Monday. Really hoping we are all going to be safe.

If you are in the danger zone then I really think you ought to consider leaving tomorrow because Sunday night and Monday are likely to be very nasty indeed. There is likely to be a lot of debris on the roads and fallen trees. Really not worth the risk :A0 -

That does it, I'm moving the car today, away from all the trees in the road. Unless you've got a banger and want to cop the insurance;)0 -

Our car is pretty safe because it is tucked in under our roof at the front. I am more concerned about next doors cars in case any of our trees in the front garden come down on them.
I lived somewhere else when the storms of 87 hit. My OH always parked the car outside our house. When he came home from a late shift he parked the car opposite instead which was very unusual. Overnight a load of slate roof tiles fell off next doors roof and landed in the car's usual parking spot. They would have gone straight through the windscreen and damaged the bonnet.
One of the slates at the back cut straight through the side of a thigk plastic cat litter tray. If anyone has a slate roof watch out for falling slates, they are lethally sharp-or at least the ones I saw were.0 -
Morning preppers, just been up to let the chooks out and boy is it windy already, I am now considerring moving more bits from the top of the garden that I thought would be safe, but now thinking they may move, grrrr. gonna get the slow cooker on for the day cooking up a feast incase we get left without electricity for a while overnight, been to mounta*n war*house yesterday and bought 5 of their wind up lanterns, will give 2 to mum and one to my gran as I don't want her fumbling round in the dark trying to boil water on the stove for a cuppa she is 80 odd, am seriously considerring going to collect her and bringing her here for the night as she lives right in town close to the beach. Am going to nip to Te*co this morn for some cheap bottled water and I think bring the chooks into the outhouse before dusk... Oh I'm dreading tonight, plz let it be over quick:eek:Thriftkitten
