Possibly a big storm coming Sunday/Monday, akin to 1987. Please have the hatches battered down! And garden furniture etc..

 They've just been to read my gas & electric meters.
I will live in fear of the bill now & my DD going up again.

Mainly in the south though so doesn't really matter. ;););) On the other hand I'd better take the storm guys for the tent just in case. Oh joy!

fiftyeighter You can use Kelly kettles at the back door with the door open, not sure if inside. Also you get those wee camping bistro stoves - you can use them inside with the window open. Sorry last post so short, I got flung off the net lol. I got a full size Cannon LPG cooker, you could always do that if you ened a new cooker :)
  • Thanks Ma. Getting really worried now. All these predictions about the bad weather likely to hit the south. Mind you we are normally so lucky, it's poor Scotland and the North that usually get it bad and for longer.
I,ve heard of share and share alike but they don't need to push it so far. Lol.

Mar - LPG cookers - any suggestions as to where to look? I've moved off the gas grid so now have oil heating and currently have an ancient electric oven (that is hotter one side than the other) and one of those solid electric ring cookers from the 80s...

I'm going to stick with electric for the oven, but would really like a gas hob, so am looking at what the options are and am always after opinions :)

think I'd better get the stuff for the tip actually to the tip instead of in the front garden before high winds hit!
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

You can often but an LPG converter for a standard gas hob. We had to do that when we moved to somewhere with no mains gas and it converted our mains gas hob to an LPG one

I live in the area meant to be affected by the storms predicted by the Met Office. Thanks to this thread and others I am very calm - I have plenty of food, candles, blankets and warm clothes, and my last bits of prep are kindly being taken care of by my neighbour, who was off to IKEA this evening and has offered to pick up a couple of their wind-up torches.

I'm sure it'll be fine, but thanks for your help everyone! Good luck to any fellow southerners - batten down those OS hatches! x
