I need to get a few tealights and I'll buy some cheap torches when I go into town tomorrow. BIL is staying with us over the weekend so on Sunday it will be a roast dinner and relax infront of the fire. I got a massive load of logs delivered today for £80. I didn't realise I'd get so many! And I got a pal over to chop some other tree bits I got from our field so I'm well stocked now till the new year - and beyond!!

Ahh thanks Mar. I,ve seen them mentioned before and just had a quick look. I just hadn't realised they could be used in doors. I may well invest in one. Thank you.

i have a ghilly kettle, pretty much the same thing if it comes to using it i will use it in my deep kitchen window sill with the window open

i also have a butane camping stove the big kind that sits flat again i'd use it by the window with the window open, not sure if you have to use those with ventilation or not (been awhile since i read the cans) but i'd do it to feel safer

Greenbee just google LPG cookers, I got mine from here= although my model isn't listed. A big cylinder lasts us 7/8 months.

Both safest used outside ideally. Carbon monoxide risk.

check your wiper blades and put some Vaseline round the door rubbers so they don't stick ...

in fact if someone could dig up the prep for your car thread bit from last year there was a good list for the 'box' in the car...:o

Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.

I don't know if you are meaning a more detailed one but there are some things listed at the start of this thread on the prepared list if memory is correct.

Whilst i'm here mooching and reading...................

    Conservatories....again...lol.

Haven't had one before and wanted to know if what I have just done is a bad idea. Have recently moved here and so still working out where I want stuff. The cat feeding station and cat litter have been a bit of a problem as not really anywhere to put them out of sight/way/etc. They have been in every room now, and to cut a long story short I have put them in the conservatory thinking I wouldn't really be using this much in the winter. However, this means that i'd be leaving the door to the lounge open all winter and therefore spending more on heating.

Exactly HOW cold do conservatories get? And do I need to rethink this within the next couple of weeks?
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Im in the south west and rota'd to work a late on monday 12-8pm, I am thinking maybe of pulling a sickie (naughty naughty) but I wont be able to stop worrying whether the plastic shed will still be there by the time I get home around 9pm..... I am having a mad panic about my chickens for the predicted weather and also about my kids who will be at my mums bungalow, which is surrounded by big old trees.. God I wish she had never chosen that tree lined bungalow...

PC from weatheraction has been so very accurate with his forecasting and he forecast the coming MAJOR storm 45 days ago (I am a subscriber). Please do not be complacent. Look right down for lots of hints re coming weather. It will be much more severe than met o says

We have been battening down here and all loose items have been stored away. I am still concerned about some tall ceramic pots, even though heavy, I will be laying them flat and putting the remaining troughs on the ground behind a wall for shelter. Powercuts are more than likely, so know where to lay your hands on the necessary stuff. The up and down temperatures are absolutely typical of the mini ice age we are entering
  • Off to the garden to secure stuff in case the forecast for sun/ mon comes true, already had my few days in France cancelled by ferry company so they must be worried!
