I switched the heating on Saturday night - only as we had guests & we didn't want to look like skinflints! And I lit the fire but the heating went off as soon as, as it became very warm! But it still remains off. Hell bent on leaving the gas off for as long as possible. I have a 1400l tank with 80% gas in it, and I hope it will last until May/June.

And its belting it down now with rain and blowing a right hooley! So early to bed with my blankets. Kids already tucked in watching TV!
  • Dh and I are both still in our dressing gowns ( no need to get dressed so had a lazy day) both still to warm, must buy a thermometer, but my unofficial test is, the butter is still soft enough to spread so must be warm in our house.
today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

Living on my memories, making new ones.

seeing things like this makes me think the gov't is very concerned about something they aren't telling us, i've noticed more and more things like this over the last few years, vaguely reminds me of all the wartime posters like make do and mend etc etc it's good advice yes but why start doing it now, i've been here 14+ years and i've only seen warnings and urgings like this in the last few

Maybe its Holyrood is more switched on and organised since the SNP got in... they know that we are much colder than down south.

well that could be however some of the big billboard signs they had up in scotland a few years ago were also seen in england...

it's been weird when watching shows like kevin mcleod's man made home too, i swear in one episode he repeated at least 6 times how good it is to create something from old things. now it could just be that he really has just had an epiphany but with shows like super scrimpers (and a few others i've been seeing here and there) also pushing the message i can't help but feel like it's a rather slow and subtle way for the gov't to make people think it's their own idea

it could just be that we're trying to live up to the eu's standards for energy efficiency and preparation and recycling etc all fit into that but i'm seeing subtle messages in so many places now that i'd never seen them before it just makes me stop and think a minute, thankfully, in my case they are preaching to the choir :p
  • Maybe if there is a hidden agenda it would be more use to the general population if the agenda was revealed in its entirety?

logic is not exactly associated with government, well not in my experience :rotfl:

my thinking is they don't want to 'cause a panic'

plus it's always easier to get someone to do something if they think it's their own bright idea, makes them feel all chuffed with themselves and not nagged or feeling deprived because they HAVE to do it differently than before

i could be totally wrong, maybe i'm just a little too cynical but i definitely see a pattern emerging

I like the fact that the met office are saying that its too early to tell when we'll have snow etc and how bad this winter will be, as forecasts can not be made that far ahead, just proves other forecasters are scare mongering. Or maybe the people saying it will be the colest winter in 100 years have some equiptment that the met office don't have.
  • I was just thinking out loud folks!!! In my ideal world the PTB would have the public behind them all the way, preferably with a big pointy stick!!! I see it more as trying to let us all down slowly by suggesting things we can do i.e put on another woolly or switch providers , just before something like these outrageous price hikes for energy are announced. I'm getting to the point that whenever someone suggests what appears to be patronising common sense I duck and wait for the next rock to be thrown!!! Lyn xxx.
