  • I know that Primark have cute hot water bottles with fluffy teddy bear covers on sale now. I'm not sure of the price but I remember that last year they were under a fiver. Great for little ones to snuggle up to!
  • Been thinking about the heating system this morning. Does everyone get theirs serviced before winter? How much does it cost? We've been in this house 4 years & have never had it serviced. We have no alternative heat source if anything happened. Is it a good idea to get it done or just fire it up in the next couple of weeks to check it's all working ok & check the radiators?
  • PRINCESS KATE we have the boiler serviced regularly once a year, usually in the summer as the engineers have less work at that time of year. It means we can sort out any problems before the colder weather comes. We also have a woodburner and get the chimney swept in the summer as again the sweep is less in demand in the warmer weather, and we order in our firewood in the summer too as it tends to be a bigger load and slightly cheaper than in the autumn when it's beginning to cool down. Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.

boiler servicing.. The cheapest quote I could find was £175 so I took out the British Gas homecare package as it includes a 'free' service and was £10 a month so saved me £55 on my cheapest quote and covered us for breakdowns.. and I got £50 Quidco cashback..

Ask if any friends or family can recommend anyone. It must be serviced for a safety point of view at least. We suffered mild carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms (sickness, headaches) due to our landlord at the time not maintaining/updating a ageing boiler. Lucky to be alive. Needless to say the boiler was very old and was condemned by an independent Gas Safe bod.

    Hi

Loving all the tips on this thread. I now need to motivate myself to actually do some of them.

I have been looking at door rods and have come across this on ebay

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fixed-Swing-PORTIERE-ROD-Pole-Rail-4-DOOR-CURTAINS-42-/260714290241

Reasonably priced at £3.50 but not sure how good they are.

Last of the blinds put up yesterday and I am sure it is less draughty around the windows. I wish DH had decided he wanted to get the windows replaced before we had the blinds fitted because they will have to come down again and I am worried we won't put them back up as well.

Getting a quote tonight for the windows and/or a new front door so will at least know if we can afford to get them done this year or not.

I am off tomorrow so have made a list of jobs to do including some winter prep such as take up and line our bedroom curtains (or at least take them up and rehang them), cook some bits for the freezer, buy a couple of bits for the store cupboard and sort out my summer and winter clothes and footwear. I also need to start looking for a hat, gloves and slippers for DS and some gloves for me. DH wants another pack of vests for work.

We are just about there with the house and clothing but still need to sort out the garden, car and food stores.
