i'm curious, the water pipes for both the flats in this building are downstairs by the close door, it's unheated down there but they are plastic pipes, should i lag these to prevent possible freezing? they are connected outside under the pavement (watched the council hooking it up, we're on the high street) so i don't have anything sticking out side but as i said it's unheated and that part of the wall cavity is open so if lagging it is advisable i'll do so it's cheap enough and i'd prefer to avoid potential problems as i get the distinct feeling this landlord won't be quick to fix anything :(
  • We have just bought a bioethanol stove as a back up form of heating.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

  • Hi,

Can I ask how are you all attaching the fleeces to the back of curtains? Are you seeing them on?

    Thanks in advance.

Lots of safety pins - attached to the header tape and a few at the sides

    :rotfl:

first time i did them i used safety pins, but after realising they are good at keeping out excess heat (and light!) i decided to sew them on, i have mine sewn along the top just under the header tape and a few stitches along the sides to keep them in place, i used the invisible thread so you can only see it if you're really up close and personal and if you did that in my house you'd get chucked out anyway so it's all good :rotfl:

Hi just wondering those people with door curtains do they get damp? we live upstairs so front and back door downstairs with stairs leading directly into open livinspace so a draught creeps up. As there is no windows (just the door and a staircase coming up) im worried the curtains will get damp/mouldysmell as there isnt much circulation? am i just OTT or is this possible?

Tink mine haven't been damp, but I open them during the day and regularly air the house through even when cold.

Got magic gloves for DS and touchscreen type ones for me in poundshop today. And my conservatory roof is nearly done :T not very :money: in terms of outlay but it needed doing and in plenty of time for winter!

I want to somehow fashion a blind out of a fleece and a tension rod for my downstairs loo. Last year I just safety pinned it over with some ribbon so I could roll it up and tie it during the day but that was very annoying... Wondering if I could do something like a roman blind...

Has anyone spotted hot water bottles in the generic high street cheaper stores yet? Stupidly I left water in one of them from last year and it looks like it's about to perish. As they are for the little ones I'm not trusting it. I could kick myself sometimes!
  • B&m sell cheap hot water bottles with nice covers. I believe they are about £1.99
