Thick fog here this morning but I finally feel like I got some winter prep done this weekend:
    • Bought a clothes horse as mine is broken. It's massive and gets a full load on. Thanks to the lady in Mr T who told me the one I was about to buy was less than half the price in HB:Tso I put it back and went over the road to get that one instead
    • Vests bought for DS and DH (and new pants and socks for DH but I dont suppose they will keep him any warmer:rotfl:)
    • PJs bought for DH
    • New coat bought for DS. Only cost £4 as I used up some vouchers from easter! Need to take it back and get a 4-5 as the 3-4 just fits.
    • All the clothing was bought at M&S and when we went to pay the sales assistant asked if we had any vouchers which we didnt so she gave us a 'spare' 20% one which saved us £27!!!!:T
    • Had a couple of items on my shopping list to stock up on but couldnt find them in the new Mr T. Will add them to this weeks list
    • Bought batteries for the battery box. Still need torches
    • I have asked DH to check my car over for winter and let me know what I need to get. The car park at work is massive and I have visions of getting stuck or pin balling the other cars trying to get out
DH gets a bonus every quarter at work but he believes these will significantly reduce or stop next year so wants to do something worth while with this months and the one before Christmas so we have been discussing getting new double glazing and a new front door. This will replace the 20 year old wooden windows we currently have and I believe it will certainly help our heating bills. DH is ringing the company 2 of our neighbours have used recently as they are highly recommended and seem reasonably priced to see if they can come and give us a quote this week.

    This weeks tasks:
    • Finish sorting out winter clothes and put summer clothes in loft
    • Take up and line our bedroom curtains
    • Buy a couple of items for the store cupboard
    • Quote for new windows
    • Find the draught tape stuff and apply to french windows
    • Get the garden sorted for winter
    • Buy slippers for DS
    Sorry for the long post:o
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%

Well, window fitter is here and he's working on my bedroom window at the moment. Hoping it will make a big difference now nights are getting colder. As I've got the day off to sit in for the window fitter, I'm getting a few jobs done. Slow cooker on with Sausage casserole for tea (and freezer). Towels and Dog Towels on the line to dry bath mats in the washer.

Going to have a search for Thermal lined bedroom curtains later.
Need to get a clothes horse to dry stuff in the winter, Thermal walking trousers and water proof trousers for walking the dogs, Thermal socks and rug for the living room (as laminate gets very cold).

I couldn't find fleeces long enough (the cost per meter including delivery wasnt cheap either) so I opted for @sda ones, I think they were £4 each or 2 for £6, i only needed 2 together for the length so it was nice and easy. They had a lovely chocolate brown which was ideal. When we moved I Unpicked all the seams and still use the fleeces now for my moggies.

Thanks pooky, looks like I'll need at least 4 fleeces (or maybe 6) for the stairway. Definitely going to check out the supermarkets this week when I get a chance. Yes, fleeces make great bedding for our little fluffy friends! :D

Went to another branch of Dunelm Mill yesterday hoping to find more curtain bargains, but there was hardly anything on offer and the selection there was very poor :( Would love a matching curtain to the patio for the living room window.

Added to To-Do list : long thick curtain (and pole) for behind the front door.
:hello: Trying my best to money save! :j

  • I've really been slacking starting / finishing the weather prep. I think because i'm trying to do some much on a tiny budget.

I've been looking for curtain linings and they all seem really expensive. So we're trying to hold out. Its only the bedroom curtains that need lining therefore we're lucky that its not the entire house.

Also, Try to find bedding / jumpers for the dogs too is proving hard as their in between sizes.

Its still mild here atm. We have the odd chilly night which might require a cotton throw on the bed - But nothing major. Hoping for it to stay like this now for at least another few weeks.
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy
  • I've just ticked another task off my winter prep list. I have just put up a curtain pole and velvet curtain (off £bay) in our kitchen doorway. The kitchen door is always left open so the cat can get through to the cat flap and I bet we lose loads of heat out the back of the house - well not any longer. Curtain is up and looking lush. It's red velvet so it feels like we've got a theatre in our hall.

OH came home while I was half way through doing it (up a ladder) and looking suspicious asked me what I was doing. So I told him and he was like "why didn't you check with me first" and I said that I had and that he'd said yes. He wasn't happy but I did ask him ages ago and he said yes. And it was too late for him to take back what he'd said when the curtain pole was already half up.

Hopefully he'll realise it's a good idea. He did that the other day too. I got an armchair off freegle for the dining room for me to sit and stitch/read in. I got it home and his face was a picture and ready to moan about the chair etc but once he'd seen it all set up looking nice and cosy in the dining room - he decided that he wants one too!

That happens a lot actually...I get a project in mind, he resists briefly but once I've done it he actually really likes it.

Windows done, curtains back up hoovered and cleaned. Hoping the new Windows and improved loft insulation will make the house warmer and help solve the condensation issue. Hoping not to have to run the dehumidifier much this winter. Haven't had to use it since last winter so here's hoping the issue has gone.

Still have loads of winter prep to do and still need to finish decorating the house. Just wish I had more free time.

Have you looked at the I*kea fleeces - I have them up at my bedroom windows & they're fab:D (and helped keep the heat out in the summer too:T) - the ones I have are really light blue and honestly look OK from the outside of the house & you really can't tell they're not proper linings

Been looking at panel heaters for the kitchen and reception. Guess we should wait til November before deciding.

Another vote for the Ikea fleeces they were about £2, we have some about 10 years old now that work really well, the light blue ones, we also kitted MIL out with them

One more thing done as cover for the outside tap has been ordered, so that should last the winter.
