Good spot, I need something over my front door and this might just do the job, if I can work out if it'd work in my awkward blooming 'hall'. I'll have to have a ponder about that, although at £3.50 if it didn't work it wouldn't be that much money wasted.

ETA: The £3.50 is for a set of rings, the actual rods are £32.99! Thats a crafty way of getting customers to pay more than they were expecting!

OMG - I've had the tab open to order them this evening and then spotted your post.

What a cheek, but I suppose if it looks too good to be true...

Back to researching - I don't really want to pay that much.

There is this on Amazon but it doesn't look as good as the other.

Suidreams - I had all my windows replaced this year and last year (had 2 or 3 done each time I could afford it!)

Safestyl£ - I found the hard sell incredibly irritating. In the end I went for a local firm called Five Star who were marginally more expensive but just came round, measured up and quoted without all the rubbish spiel! Because they are only based 12 miles away, they didn't mind coming to fit a couple of windows at a time.

I only had 2 windows replaced by the time last winter started but even that made a difference. The old frames leaked like mad so I had towels across the window sills - good to get rid of those at last!

I'm looking forward to really seeing a difference now every window frame has been replaced.

I had downstairs done earlier in the summer, old back door leaked slighly when it rained (only a few drops though, but could never work out where it was coming from). The front door had a freezing draft from it all last winter. Upstairs was done this week, Main bedroom window was constantly pouring with condenstaion in the winter and there was a bad draft from the window in the spare room.

So this will be the first winter with the new windows so hopefully, I'll start saving on the heating.

For those of you with Pets, what temperature do you leave the heating on for them when your out at work etc. This will be the first winter that mine are on their own during the day, they will have walkers coming twice a day to walk them and check on them, but don't want them being too cold or too hot (one of them vomits when he's hot).
  • Suidreams - my mum is a vet and has her place at 14 degrees during the day. That's for cats, but it depends on what type of animal (I'm guessing dogs) and what type of coat they have. If its a thick fur coat, I really wouldn't worry too much! A hairless breed would need it higher than 14 (or a jumper on ;) )

Similarly, a warm blanket in their bed would probably keep them cosy too
:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A

Thanks they are a double coated long haired breed, but one has a warmer cpat than the other. I will try it at 14 when the weather starts getting cold.

    Thank you.

Went into the loft earlier - it was boiling up there but the rest of the flat is cold. Might have to add some extra boards and relocate up there until March :D

We moved in to 1 of 6 new build rentals last December. The LL came knocking one day in January asking did we have a problem with water dripping through the upstairs ceiling. I said no, he said strange as all the other houses do.

What happened is the builders overlooked putting a ventilation tile or 2 in the roof. The amount of condensation that was caused by the heat in the loft was enough to cause a constant drip through the ceiling! Goes to show how much gets up into that space.

Oh, it was thought because we have our heating on 18-19 degrees in the cold that we didn't create enough warmth in the roof space to cause a problem. The other houses were heating at 21 degrees (I couldn't cope with that)

Bought driving gloves and wooly gloves x 2 for me yesterday as well as some slippers for DS. Oh and a pair of Welles for me that look like posh riding boots. I wanted a pair of smart ones to get me across the football sized car park at work but look ok when I get there.

Also picked up some instant mash for the store cupboard.

After all the talk about new windows the man didn't show up last night. DH was:mad: they are coming this afternoon instead.

DS is getting a new big boys bed today (single) and is about ready to try no nappies during the night but I am a bit worried that a waterproof sheet under his cotton sheet is going to be really cold. He is quite a hot bod and kicks the covers off. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am supposed to be sorting out our bedroom curtains this morning but have been sat in the dentist chair for an hour first thing so feeling a bit wibbley wobbly.:(
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

Interesting...our flat isn't a new build but we've had problems with mold/mould (can never remember the spelling!) the past few years - wonder if it is not helped by what you say about loft ventilation...

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi everyone.

Been so busy the past weeks that I feel incredibly behind in my winter prep! :embarasse

Really need to use the rest of today and over the weekend to get sorted.

The only things I've done this week was to make radiator foil backers for all radiators on external walls. Hopefully will help to keep the heat in a little bit.

Also my mum made us a huge sausage casserole on tuesday. We had some for our dinner and portioned the rest up to freeze for chilly nights.

Lovely and sunny here so on my 3rd load of washing to try and get up to date! Off to look at my winter list...:)

Trying to live a good life on little money :T
