Sounds silly but are you sure it's not a leak, or a blocked gutter?

Helen2k8. It's a De Longhi 10 litre de humidifier. I'm really pleased with it. Was really surprised at the amount of water it collected.

Ive also got a DeLongi. I must have bought a duff one because it had to go back to them 3 times in its first six months. Its fine now. It does collect a lot of water! I hang my washing in the back room on a heated lakeland clothes dryer and put the dehumidifyer on and clothes are dry in no time and the water try half full! In fact for anyone drying clothes in a flat, id recommend using the lakeland clothes dryer and a dehumidifyer.

I've lived in houses with condensation and my heart goes out to anyone with this. I did a little google search - and found some links. There probably isn't anything we didn't already know but just a good reminder. Opening the windows seems to be a major thing to do too:

Ooohhhh a new winter thread! I've been off line for many weeks cos of a house move & then my broadband played up & it seems I've now fixed it!

Well my new home contains a mahoooooosive inglenook & I love nothing more than playing pyrotechnic! I've got wood (but need a lot more) and I have coal (need to buy anthracite really for a cleaner burn but I don't live in a smokeless area so I'm OK for now with it) & I love watching the flamed dancing in the stove.

We have an LPG tank whcih is full & will definately last us all winter, and once the heating is on the new extension is really warm thanks to the double layer or rockwool in the loft, plus its a cottage so only gound floor so the heat bouces back down from the ceiling.

I need to line DS's curtains (the girls prefer them open as its pitch black with them closed (no street lighting).

Mine & DH's hats/gloves are in our bedroom in a drawer ready. Kids are in a wicker basket in the hallway. Also in the hallway I have a leather effect chest from Argos which holds all the blankets. Need to get a vaccum back to put in the extra duvets/pillows I have. Though I have space int he kids wardrobes so I might just leave them there.

Oh & I have a fleecy blanket on each bed on top of the fitted sheet so we're all warm in them!

Need to get my preping head on!

We are moving from a nice small warm flat to a house hopefully by the end of October.

So far I've not really done any house winter preping but have done a lot of other stuff.

    So far -

*Winter Car bag done but could do with some de icer and spare oil.
*Just ordered DH some Heat holder thermal tops, long johns and a hat. Ordered myself again Heat holder gloves, hat and long socks from Sports Direct.
Really rate the Heat Holder products especially the socks as they are the only thing to keep my feet warm.
*Got some Karrimor snow boots heavily reduced to £13 in the summer sale, as my last pair which I've had for years have a hole in.
*Got my wellies and some bargain Hunter welly socks to keep me warm.
*Got some basic long sleeved tops from primark, also had some new underwear and DH had a onesie, I need to get me one :)
*Got plenty of fleece blankets etc.
*Bought the dog some knitter jumpers to keep her warm.
*DH's winter boots are still ok from last year, as are his coats.
*Both had some new wool jumpers and wool socks

    Need -

*Sort my Mum and Brother out with a car safety kit.
    *Get Hubby some decent socks.
*Look out for some cheap fleeces to line the curtains with/buy some decent curtains.
*More food for the stock cupboard - UHT milk, tins etc
    *A waterproof coat for myself.
*I'm massively incredit with my gas and electric so need to ring and get that back.

    I'm sure I'm missing some things :)

Have managed to keep my CH running morning and evening at about 40-50F, radiators are just warm, which is all it really needs.

Have established that the property was indeed empty for almost a year before I moved in a couple of weeks ago so it had gotten quite cold and slightly damp. This is now much improved and as my new little de-humidifer has now arrived today :yipee: should be even better!

Must get new everyday boots, my black one's heel has totally gone (rubber hollow type) and the brown ones are getting soggy every day even when it's dry outside :(

Have spent the afternoon moving the hooks around on my over-the-front-door curtain, and safety pinning a spare super king flannelette sheet behind it...

I can now tell you 2 things - the cheap heading tape that was on the curtains when I got them needs ripping off & replacing with something less fragile & rubbish; the sheet is the right width, but about 18inches too long.

Which collectively mean I need to take it down again, take off the old tape, pin together so I can work out how much I need to cut off of the sheet, iron the sheet over so I can sew the replacement heading tape to the existing think cotton curtain and the sheet together, and re-fit the hooks so I can re-hang the curtain.

This is not going to happen in the 20 minutes before I need to leave to get DS2 from school.

However. The lining sheet is pink, and give the hallway a lovely warm feel with just enough pink showing through the curtain to give it a pink glow. So it will be worth it when finished...

Marilyn, was it you asking where to get flannelette sheets from?

I got some last year, and thought I said where from in the old winter thread, but I've just done a search & can't see my posts before this summer. I got lots from very when they had their buy 1 get 1 free offer... As I hadn't realised that meant you get 2 in the pack... So we have 4 very sheets each, plus the set each I'd already bought from somewhere else ;) Which is why I have a free to use to line the curtains.

I have seen them in Dunelm mill as well, but wanted super king for my deep mattress king size bed, which I couldn't get from them last year.

Today I found my hot water bottle! It's pink and furry (sadly with a playboy symbol on it - it was in a sale of course!). And I'm sat here cuddling it. :)

Does anyone else do what I do - put a splash of cold water in the bottle first before adding the hot water? :)

    Keep warm :)
