My turn for a question now - can anyone suggest a VERY low cost solution to inside window condensation, DD's bedroom is suffering with a very wet window, her room is about 8x6ft, sloping ceiling and over the garage, it isn't the warmest room but she hasn't got the Rad on yet as she gets too warm in the night if the rad has been on during the day/evening. Because the window is on the sloping ceiling the condensation runs down the wall, I can solve that [tea towel tucked behind the blind cords at the bottom of the window] but I've no idea what to do to stop the water

    Thanks
    Helen

A dehumidifier will work but not cheap, moisture traps from £ stores will absorb some water but not stop it.
Open the window during the day as the water has to evaporate somewhere, depending on DD's age, sleep with the window open a little a bit, sleep with the door open a little bit maybe?
  • Morning all, SLIPPERS - I always buy mocassins made from real leather and with a cotton, not fluffy lining. They also have a rigid sole and that means they are OK to wear to go outside to the bin, and they are waterproof. I get mine from an E*ay site called Lambland and they are around £15. Have used them for a few years now and no smelly feet or slippers, and comfortable and warm. Hope this helps Cheers Lyn.

Had a look at those Mrs L - they're £17.99 now but that's still a good price. This house is freezing in winter so I wear real old lady suede slippers with a fluffy lamb's fleece lining. Not good for going out to get the logs in though
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Hi MARYB it's a year since I got my last pair so that is probably why the price is up a bit. I find them very comfy and practical, they seem to do a range of colours too. He who knows wears them too and he's a size 12 and they are big enough for him to be comfy, which is almost a miracle!!! Cheers Lyn x.

I have a similar problem with DD's bedroom. No matter what I do her windows are running with condensation, not quite so bad in the summer but its really bad now. Even leaving the window locked open (and not practical over night or when I've got to go out as its above the extension roof and easily reached) it can still be wet at the end of the day. Going to put a couple of those cheap dehumidifies on the windowsill now she's old enough to understand not to mess with them.

Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

I bought my OH these thermal bits - a fleecy lined thermal t shirt and long johns. Quite an old fashioned site but very pleased with the products:

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all.
I have been shopping today and bought everything i needed.

The wellies from Lidl (£9.99 adults, £6.99 kids) are really lovely, and fleece lined :)
The hot water bottles (£5 each, primark, with christmassy fleece covers!) are just perfect, and our 1st 'christmas covered' item so far this year!

I got some Christmas bits- my mums gloves and my BILs shortbread.
Also got PJs for me and my youngest son (my oldest son hates PJs!) and thick wolly socks for us all :)

Also got myself some lovely fleecy wolly boot slippers, but couldnt see any for my younest son, so will still be on the lookout.

Dont need fleece blankets, as we already have those from last year.

So, now its onto ways to keep the house warm for the winter! I will be reading this thread to get loads of ideas :)

The butchers shop was done and completed today and it fitted all in the freezer perfectly.

    Just left to do:-

Get 4 pints of milk for the freezer
Wash the front and back door mats
Sweep up the leaves - thats and as and when as they are not down yet!
    Clean the gutterings
Put the cordylines away and cover them in gardners fleece

I am going to do a deep clean of the house on Thursday so that it is all put to bed for the winter. Then it is all done!
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

    Hi
    Thanks for the replies
I can't put anything on the window sill as its a sloping wall so no sill :[[[[ think I'll have to keep the window open as long as I can and just keep mopping up - Grrrr to the house designer!! But I'll give the salt a go and place it as near to the window as I can

Once again, thank you lots :]]
