    Some progress so far:

    bought new quilts
Bought winter weight baby grobags for ds2
    Put door curtains up again

I haven't managed to overpay gas/elec DD over the year like I wanted to:(

    To do:

Make car box for OH, he travels upto 100 miles a day and I worry about him in the winter

We all need more warm pyjamas and clothes.

I need to start buying a few more tins, UHT milk and packets for store cupboard.

I need to find out what to do with my blackcurrant, blackberry and strawberry plants. They didn't do anything this year as I'd only just planted them, not sure whether to put them in the shed or leave them outside.

I have just caught up with all your updates, really enjoyed reading them. My plans for preparing for the winter seem to have come to a standstill, I just can't get my head around the thought of winter while its still 36 in the shade. I went outside early this morning to have a look why it was so quiet and it was so warm it was freaky...

I did see one thing I am going to buy for the winter while I was in town today , I saw some over the knee socks that would do either with my skirts over tights or under my trousers on the scooter. Very sassy they looked as well, a bit like stockings with a band at the top and even a little bow...my other half will love me in them.....and only 2.99 a pair. There were some lacy knitted ones as well in white. Going to treat myself to a couple of pairs, they will look better than the leg warmers on me.

This morning my OH spotted a lightweight jacket that was waterproof in the shop window and asked if I would like him to buy it for me as a treat. Honest to the core that is me....I reminded him that I bought a nice black waterproof jacket for myself a week or so ago, just haven't worn it yet as its so warm and we have had no rain . Blessxxxx

annie123...think I will pass on the visit to the UK...we came over at the end of May for three weeks so I could be a judge at a bodybuilding show..had five glorious days in London then it started raining and never stopped till we left three weeks later. Our relatives were all miserable and argumentative and it cost us a fortune to go and see them all...never again!

But the bodybuilding show was good...

  • 2TONSILS - glad you have taken DH to see the doctor, hope he is feeling better or at least has better pain relief by now. Hope the dratted power cuts don't give you too much grief in the coming days.It must be nice to still have the warm days although I can't complain at the moment as although it was wet here this morning the lurcher and I got a nice dry sunny walk this afternoon and warm to the point of having to take my jacket off, not bad for the UK in October eh? Stay safe both of you Cheers Lyn x.

It was pouring with rain this morning, so DS2 & I had our waterproof trousers on for the walk to school, & he had his welly boots (&.they all came home again!) - I couldn't find mine (grrr!) so used my warm waterproof boots. The vehicles dashing past couldn't make us wet :)

Helen2k8. It's a De Longhi 10 litre de humidifier. I'm really pleased with it. Was really surprised at the amount of water it collected.
  • Hi all,

great to see a shiny new thread. I'm doing various winter preps at the minute but am trying to get ideas together for Kids Entertainment Boxes, basically a couple of wee boxes (1 at home, 1 in the car) to keep the kids busy if:
    1) we get a power cut at home
    2) we get stuck in the car etc

My normal winter car box is getting finalised this weekend & will contain extras for the kids as well, but am a bit stuck for ideas to keep them entertained.

    Many thanks

    These are the slippers I got DS1 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009DFT7RK/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
They arrived today and he's really pleased with them. As the reviews say, they do come up small - I got him a 9-10, and his feet are a size 8. They went on fine but his toes are nearly to the end. Though they've got the furry bits, it's not enough to pick up every bit of wood shavings his hamster has thrown out of her cage ;)

And speaking of hamsters, both girls are now having their warmer bedding - kitchen roll instead of toilet roll for snuggly beds for hamsters :).

How old are the kids? I found a travel colouring set of DS2's the other day I thought would be great for his emergency bag - it comes in a cardboard folder that holds mini pens on 1 side and little colouring sheets on the other. Yay for mother in law, as I know she bought it for him ;)

Umm, I guess travel games are a good idea as long as they're old enough for them?
  • I have 2 kids DS who is 8, and DD who is 5.

I'm just not very creative/imaginative so all advice & suggestions are welcome :)
