I made a microwaveable heat bag today - 80p for two bags of tesco value rice, and two old-but-sturdy teatowels sewn together into four sections. Each section filled with half a bag of rice- ta-daa!0

Well have spent all day swapping over the kids summer wardrobes for winter, they are in long sleeve pj's for bed so nice and snug. It is not cold here, we are lucky that the weather is not normaly that bad in London, i didn't put the heating on at all last winter (we did put the fire on in the living room for the dog at one point though:rotfl:)
The only thing is we are an end terrace on the corner of an allotment so ds room is on the potside corner and does get a little damp around the window and the corner of rhe ceiling. Not sure how to combat that, he has a small storage heater in his room, but as he is only in his room to sleep we don't put his heater on, does this help or hinder the damp?
You would be better with a small de humidifier than a heater. It will make the room feel a lot warmer and stop mould growth0 -
Don't need a thermometer as puss doesn't stay out so long now as it's getting chilly! When I find puss under the duvet that'll be my queue to maybe kick start the heating!
Front-door hall and back-door curtain in place. TV in bedroom if I fancy slipping into bed on a cold night. I have a snuggle blanket coat thing too.
"Yak Trax" shoe grippers @ the ready in anticipation of any snow n ice! (haven't used them really as not much snow n ice since I bought them!)
The nights seem to draw in quickly without really paying much attention to.0 -
Slow cooked a batch of 'stewp'- like a soup/stew mix with smoked sausage in it. I have five portions in the freezer box now
Mum found some fabric that she decided to buy and will post to me to line my living room curtains, 8-9ft drop :eek:Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

Treat myself to de humidifier at the weekend. I was astounded how much water it collected in the kitchen and the living room. Though my washing was on the dryer in the kitchen. The house did feel a bit warmer.0

someone has posted on fb that we are expecting snow in 3 weeks.. i cant see no forecast for snow yet....
If you haqppened to have watched Countryfile's weather forecast last night there was some concern of a low pressure system in the Atlantic which could head our way. They said that providing the 'high' remains with us it will keep it out. If it doesn't then it is a "cause for concern". They didn't say snow as such but it's not looking good if it does shift towards us.
Back in 2009 we had snow it was the last week of October and I remember it really well as we were off to a funeral.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Now I'm feeling more organised. :-)
I have....
1) Repainted the front of the house.
2) Had new double glazed windows fitted downstairs on the roadside of the house where the old windows leaked every time it rained.
3) Got the first load of logs delivered!
4) Found the two thicker quilts for my sons' beds.
5) Had a good sort out of the wardrobes and airing cupboard ready for Bags2School this Friday.
6) Done the charity shops so sons both have several fleeces and jumpers each. (Smaller son has grown 17cm in 18 months so absolutely nothing fits and he is the same height as his brother, nearly 3 years older).
7) Got myself a good fleecy jumper from Sainsburys last week (25% off all clothes in their sale).
8) Got a few new lanterns. 2 were 70% off in Sainsburys! I won't have candles that are not in lanterns and we have very frequent power cuts.
9) Had a builder out this morning to give me a quote to fix the top of the chimney where it leaks A LOT in the rain. He's coming back with some long ladders.
10) In the process of getting bigger son a warm coat from Ebay.0 -
Am convinced the repairs to the toilet cistern have made a massive difference the dampness in the flat. Mini dehumidifier will arrive this week and should finish off the rest of it!!Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

I put the fleece underblankets on yesterday when we changed the beds and both DD and I were toasty when we woke up for a change.
Going to go and put some dehumidifiers in the bedrooms & bathrooms after lunch as upstairs has suddenly gone very mouldy and the windows are all dripping. All this because DD and I both had baths last nightBathroom window won't open (Landlady knows and she's supposed to be getting it fixed) so we can't ventilate the bathroom except into the rest of the house and we can't exactly sit in the bath with the door open! Will also have to demould everywhere, but after last weeks trip to A&E with suspected bleach in my eye I'm going to be extra careful!
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0
