It's much cooler here today. I have re proofed two coats they are blowing on the line. The cupboards are well stocked and will keep topping them up. I do need to get some more bread flour in. We have plenty of toiletries and cleaning stuff. I will buy some grit in soon, we got through quite a lot last year. I noticed that b&q had some willies in so will get some for the teenagers.

    Preps going well.

I feel cold today. Watching DVD with littlies this morning, spandex when I got up to go in kitchen,I felt really cold. We put the fire on for half an hour! Went out with the scooters and the kiddies were nearly blown over - feels very autumnal. I've just made their beds tonight so I've flipped mattresses and put the quilted toppers on under their sheets for an extra layer.

Even DS asked for socks tonight, and he's usually a hot little body.

Am about to go finish DD cupboard which I've rearranged. I gather we won't be needing sundresses for a while, so I'll swap those into the box and get her some more layers to hang up instead...

It's suddenly come cooler here, too - sat with a few layers and thick socks on!

Having an afternoon in tomorrow, so going to sort all the woollies, coats, boots, etc., to see what fits and make lists accordingly. DH is going to do the lawns tomorrow when he gets home and I need to beg, borrow or buy a potato sack so I can lift my spuds next week. When the kids are back at school this week, I hope to do one small winter prep job every day, longer ones maybe one a week - last few years I've been a bit last-minute so want to be properly prepared this year!

I'm using rainydays list from one of the older threads, very comprehensive, and a good resource.

Today I started on putting summer clothes away... :(

Short sleeve t-shirts have all gone into the wash basket to do over the next few days, so they can be put away fresh and clean for next summer. Reason being that I really don't wear t-shirts in winter, even for layering. I prefer tank tops and long sleeves tees for layering.

I'm back to my teaching job on Tuesday, so the "work wardrobe" will making its reappearance. No room for casual tees and shorts there I'm afraid.

Heading out tomorrow for a bit of a seasonal stock-up. Perhaps another fleecy blanket for the back of the sofa, and some cheap tea light candles. Nothing lovelier than some little candles dotted around the living room when watching tv on a dark evening. No kids or pets here, so reasonably safe to do!

Quite a productive morning so far. 2.5ibs of blackberries picked and some walnuts and that to the plums picked yesterday I will be jam making later. One load of washing done and just treated myself to BLT before going to tackle the spare rooms!
  • All veggies are pretty well tucked away for winter and all fruit preserved, mostly frozen this year. I have decided to start winter garden tidy up as it is a job I loathe in cold damp weather, just a bit at a time and it will get done. Am content to get into hibernation mode as I feel myself winding down and am ready for the next season. Oh yes, new flannel bedding is washed and ready in the airing cupboard. Qvc stuff as their flannel is always good. Can never get it when it gets to be freezing cold so jumped the gun, several months ago as we needed to replace a set, which is now being cut up for sewing toiles, my resurrected hobby, sewing
