Today I have washed OH's winter jacket and it is now drying on the line. I will take my winter jacket to the dry cleaners later on since it has not been washed for the last 3 winters.

The biggest achievement this weekend has been that I have finally made my own first draught excluder for the front door. Once everyone is at home it will lie in front of the front door on the inside. I am chuffed with myself how easy it was to make. I used an old trouser leg and stuffed it with unloved clothes and then sealed it with 2 cotton laces from an old top that I have I have tied into a bow.

Thanks for posting that. It has reminded me that I have washed my waterproof jacket but haven't resprayed it with waterproofing yet. I would probably have forgotten to do it if I hadn't read your post. It is definitely an outdoor job because the spray stinks.
  • I have also finished my draught exluder this weekend - it has been half full for ages waiting for some more old clothes/sheets to fill it up and we had to get some new bed sheets so voila - one got cut up and now its sitting behind my chair just waiting to be used when it gets cooler.
We only use it in the living room as there is such a big gap under the door it really lets the cold in!
Simplify and then Simplify some more!

Got my bubble wrap ready for the downstairs toilet window. I might use some on the front door this year too as it has a large pane of glass.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

Does this really work and how do you stick it on?

I have large stained glass single pane windows which are permantly wet with condensation, would it stop this? I have stuck the slingfilm on my other windows, but there is one window which doesn't stick that well due to poor quality painted frames.

    Thanks
  • No, you'll just have the bubble-wrap running with condensation instead. You need to address the cause of so much moisture being put into the air inside. I might be worth looking into acquiring a dehumidifier and running it 24/7

Any long range forecasts for this winter? Hoping that our preps for last winter will carry over to this one, as money is short this year.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • I'm on the look out for long range forecasts too. Wonder if Kittie has heard anything yet? We've had quite a bit of work done to the house the last few months, also getting married in 6 weeks so a lot going in & I'm feeling behind in preps! Once the new sofas arrive next week I'll be getting everything back in its usual place, having a big declutter at the same time & getting my winter box together.

Store cupboard needs topping up but there's a voucher for £5 off £40 in aldi this week so I think I'll use that to get some extra tins in. Also need to start getting some extra cat litter & plenty of cat food in so that doesn't have to be a worry.

Really want to utilise my slow cooker this winter so will have a look for some recipes, all in 1 types are appealing to me, less dishes! Will have a meat stocktake in the freezer too, check what I've got in there & top up with yellow sticker ex meat over the next few months.

Lots to do but it makes me feel good being prepared & i love reasing about everyone's tips!

If anyone finds any long range weather info please share!

Well I am nowhere near as prepared as most of you and have many jobs which need doing but will start tackling them after our holiday next week.

I have found hats for my youngest daughter and washed my eldest daughters coat ready, bought 3 big tins of deicer yesterday so have made a little start.
To get to Disneyland Florida 2016
