I got one of these for the car last year and TBH for a bit of digging out if you were stuck, it's fine (wouldn't want to try to clear the whole drive with it though IYKWIM!)

Save jars to put tea-lights in
What a good idea. I will certainly be pinching this idea as I have the tea lights but nothing to put them in.
I will make my winter coat last I think and I had forgot that DS had his walking coat with built in fleece for winter so I can cross those 2 items off my list:)Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Snap! Here's hoping they don't last long!
Reminds me, though, I wonder if I'll get a flu jab offer. Had one last 2yrs although I did tell them I wasn't eligible anymore, they still sent for me last year. I'll definitely get one at Asda if not through my surgery.
I had my 1st one in Jan this year (as was taking horrific chemo like drug that basically destroyed my immune system) and it was actually OK (I tend to avoid things like that even tho' I know I should have them:o)
We usually get offered them at work (to try to cut down sickness absence) - but I'll leave these for people that can't get them at the Drs (as I'm on the list of those who should be done every year)
Winter coats - I've been looking for a waterproof for ages for walking the dog .... current one is 18 years old :T but has recently started to leak quite badly & the zip has gone (doesn't owe me anything!)
Trouble is - I like them really big for dog walking so they can go over my thick fleece and thick bodywarmer for when it's really cold
Had been to loads of places with no success & then finally found one in Tre*pass RRP £55 ... for £22 :T
It is enormousbut will def go on top of everything & keep me nice & dry
Also ordered some cat litter - it comes in 2 bags (as cheaper) and a bag basically lasts a month) - however, I'll try to order once / month for the next 3 months or so and build a wee stockpile upGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi All
I don't post here normally bur do lurk. We've just bought 10 bags of coal to start our winter supply. I plan on getting 10 a month for another 3/4 months as our wood burner will be our only supply of heating this year by choice. Our bills have been crazy this year due to coming off a capped rate or whatever they are called and we seem to be using more energy. We've cut this right down now but the outcome was they put my bills up to £150 a month and I can't afford this easily so once the balance (£350 ish) ish cleared and I'm starting to pay for what we use again the heating is firmly off.
I'm asking my lovely Nana to knit the kids some house jumpers again which they use in the house, obviously, and to go on long walks with us. She is 90 and very talented. I'd love to be able to knit like her.Debt - CCV £3792
CCB £1383 (took a hit for a holiday)
Loan 1 £1787
Loan 2 £1683

I have done my two outside wall Radiators with that foam foil stuff , even tho oh thinks its pointless it will make me happy knowing that iv covered all bases re:losing heat! I havent told him about the plan to line the curtains yet!!
Knitting my fjrst square for a blanket is halfway there...im still learningSimplify and then Simplify some more!0 -

Last year I managed to get a couple of Slankets really cheap in Asda's. They were lovely and fluffy, but not too warm, so I put the sleeves inside each other and wore several at once. I was soooo warm. I've also managed to pick up a really thick brown one (yuk) in a boot fair and I put that one in the middle so you can't see it. I looked like the Michelin Man (for those who are old enough to remember him, those who don't he's a pile of rubber tyres!).0

syria/egypt worsening by the day. Oil prices will rise so will winter fuel as even non oil piggy backs on oil prices. Worthwhile getting in what you can now and/or putting something aside for higher gas/electric prices. If necessary then have a plan re keeping just one small room warm with minimal heat input
edit: eg keeping your fridge in a small well insulated room would be enough, that plus body heat0 -
a slow cooker also helps to keep room warm whilst cooking dinner tooMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

a slow cooker is good as well, you could put it on before bed then have the kitchen (or whatever room you want to warm up) warm when you wake up.
i have a long open plan room kitchen on one half, lounge on the other, one large window at either end but this room heats up well and as long as we keep that door closed to the hall it stays warm for a long time. sometimes i go into the hall to use the hall toilet and it's nippy, in the lounge/kitchen my feet are too warm so i think we'll be ok this winter, fingers crossed
i may be doing even more home cooking though to take the edge off if it gets really bad!
DOH i shouldn't post with a headcold lol i thought htat said a cooker as in regular cooker, back to feeling sorry for myself and trying to clear my wooley head whilst those with clear minds post :-)0
