I think I have had a reality check this morning that prepping for winter needs to kick in quick! Hanging out the washing at 6 o'clock this morning and a skein of very noisy geese went over! Something we never see until October or slightly later :-(. Off to make a list now!

We live next to a nature reserve and our geese flew off last night, what a noise they made too. We have awful weather today, rain all day and blustery cold winds. Only 12 degrees at the moment. i suspect they could feel it coming.

    Interesting isn't it? :)

Didn't think it was cold earlier, but I'm sitting here with socks and a fleece on! We had stew and veg for tea, starting to feel back end-ish here now. :D

Weekend forecast is mixed, and we may have DGS Sat afternoon now, so might not get all winter prep done that I'd planned. I've bought some wool from the £ shop, hoping to re-skill myself, going to start with a basic blanket for the dolls' bed! :rotfl: I really want to be a proper knitter and crocheter, now DD is at nursery I might have the time!

Woke up this morning to my house being just 18C for the first time in months, but it feels much colder due to the rain. DD is wrapped up on the sofa and is still cold so I've put the fire on on full until 8am to burn off the dust and take the chill off. I'm refusing to put the CH on unless the bedrooms start feeling damp. DD will just have to learn to wear some more clothes around the house ;)

  • Cleared out my wardrobe yesterday, sadly packing away the shorts and finding my jumpers! Got to check through ds 1 and 2,and expect this will mean a shopping trip.... Ds1 def grown over summer. Last few mornings have felt cool here,am fast finding thick curtains and stuff as house will turn into a fridge soon.have to say I love autumn,so looking forward to making house snugly!
Noticed in primarni in Plymouth they had jersey duvet sets.... Reckon they will be warmer for boys than crisp cottons!

Bought myself some nice thermal flannelette sheets.. My cotton ones are rather old and developing holes so can be cut down to single sheets or used to line door snakes

  • Where did you get your sheets pigpen?

happyin devon.....did the jersey duvet sets seem warm like flannelette is?

Lidl have jersey bedsheets in but I'm not sure what they'll be like compared to flannelette? I bought quite an expensive flannelette sheet from dunelm last year but it was so cosy, it was well worth it, think it was about £18 for a double. Would like a 2nd for when the other is in the wash.

Getting a few bits of prep done, lounge is being finished getting decorated today, and we have the minor thing of getting married in 5 weeks but I know once we get back from honeymoon the clocks will be going back & I'll want to feel sorted!

Lots of things in place from previous year. Just need to top up car bag, check candles etc & make sure in stocked up on cat litter & food. We live opposite an Aldi & no matter what the weather has thrown at us they have always had a delivery every day! Even in the awful snow in 2010 they we're fully stocked. Very handy but still only want to be carrying essentials if we get bad snow again!
  • Followed this thread last year and feeling more organised this year:j

I normally work 7 days a week but at home recovering from a pretty nasty Crohn's flare so no work for me:( I'm already enjoying cosy nights with candles and blankets on the couch. My freezer is full of meals already and my sour dough starter is looking good :j

I really need to get my north face jacket cleaned, ugg boots cleaned and my leather boots need waxed but I'm scared to start this in case it looks awful:o

I LOVE autumn and winter.....stews, soups, cold crisp days, horrible wet dark nights with candles lit :D can't wait!!!!
I'm a Crohnie and I'm proud of it!!! Also dairy free so love love love the OS thread for cooking from scratch! :D

Amazon.. I wanted red though which nowhere else seems to do.. the exact same ones were 3 times the price on ebay! but if you want cream/white/pastels Dunelm is possibly cheaper.

weather is strange here, it can feel like high summer and autumn in the same day. My summer duvet is some nights too cold, and some nights too warm, so I've got 2 blankets on.

I have brought the rugs out of the loft, have beaten them in the sunshine (with a meat tenderiser!) to get worst of dust out, and am about to start crocheting a rug from fleeces for ds's room.

I have a kitchen blind to make, the upstairs curtains to interline and the draft excluders to make - but I enjoy this so that's good.

All coats/hats/scarves/winter boots got already, so it's making and finishing things really, car gets serviced in november and i\ need to fix one of the window seals.

ANd in between I want to sew a masive garland of stars from fabric scraps to decorate for christmas (to be hung with golden apples - I ave loads of papier mache ones!) - but this is just for fun :)
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
