    Indeed it does.
Include the standing charge and the above gives £34.19 a month.
But also remember that the gas figure in particular does not include any winter related usage. Once your heating is on, your gas usage will increase dramatically.
You could not expect that amount per month to cover your annual usage though, which is the idea behind monthly direct debit payments, but not a concept that all suppliers follow....:)

Fantastic, thank you so much. Makes perfect sense now. Sorry about all the questions, I just really wanted to understand the maths. I know it will definitely go up in winter when we have the central heating on but I just wanted a ballpark figure for summer months. I expect to pay 60 a month on direct debit so this should definitely cover any deficit over winter but we'll see.
  • Really don't know what to do, First Utility want a 300 pound security deposit refunded after 4 months. Plus the 60 pound cancellation fees and their dreadful customer service so far is putting me off so much.

Should I just stick with Southern Electric?? Cooling off period runs out on Thursday.

What is a 300 security deposit?
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

If it were me, I'd make the most of still being in my cooling off period...:)

  • In case anyone's interested, my saga of the energy switch goes on. FU have called me twice today, a week after they told me they would. Spoke to someone from the registration team who said if I changed my previous address the 300 deposit would be waived as the reason my credit check failed was because I wasn't on the electoral roll.

She also said that if I moved before 2014 then the fees WOULD be waived but that she couldn't put that in an email. She then re-registered me (meaning that my cashback switch will be void now as that original registration's been cancelled), adding another week onto 4-6 weeks quoted..

Then got a call from the customer care team who said the 60 exit fees would NOT be waived unless we signed up to them at our new home. What a hassle.

Not a great start but I honestly think all energy suppliers are going to have problems when it comes to customer care and I really want to be on the cheapest tarriff possible.

I have just put a timer on my immersion (only electric here) 30 mins on the night rate
    4.10p
and 15 mins in the afternoon
    9.38p
running about 90p a day usage on a week day and £1..30
at the weekends.( i like a bath then)
a little bit more expected soon as the winter comes in but I,m getting two showers a day and enough water to do the dishes for about 35 pence a day, cost of the timer was 10quid..
I may have to increase the night time length as the water in the loft tank feeds colder water into the hot water take and the cool air around the house cools the HWT....
its insulated by the way fully with foam and a spare old sleeping bag...
I also pay about £50 a year standing charge...
of course it should be a little cheaper in the summer...

according to both meters I have, the monitor and the electric,I seem to be running about £28-30 a month which was better than the £55 DD I was paying befor..

seems better for me I,ll keep and eye on the usage...:T
  • ABSOLUTELY NIGHTMARE. Had to update just to warn people do not sign up with First Utility. After wasting my time for 2 weeks they have now asked me for another security deposit. Cannot be doing with their dreadful customer service and not worth the stress trying to get 300 pounds back off them in 4 months.

Staying with Southern Electric, always helpful when I call and set up direct debits, usage is low enough that it shouldn't make too much of a difference plus a fix isn't really for us as we're probably moving next October anyway.

    Good luck everyone else.
