Do I have to do this????

Hi
Hi hope someone can help with this. My partner and father of my 3 children has come home this evening and asked me to complete a form for the magistrates court giving details of my income. It seems that he got caught doing 36mph in a 30mph zone back in february but he has neglected to tell me this until now!!! He now says that he's facing potentially a £700 fine and is wanting my income details to give to the court!!!! Although we have been together as a couple for 16 years we have always had separate bank accounts and have never been financially linked. The house is in my name and I have always paid pretty much for absolutely everything food, bills, clothes the lot etc apart from expenses relating to his car as he drives and I don't. I've always worked as well whilst because he is a lot older than me he has survived on a state retirement pension. I'm therefore wondering why he needs my financial details to give to the court and whether or not I really need to do this. I didn't commit the offence and I'm not married to him and have always kept my finances separate from his. Do I really have to give them my financial details? Our relationship is not in a very good place at the minute and I'm not happy about potentially being linked to him financially especially when I've carried the financial burden of our household single handedly for so long. I also don't feel willing and am not myself able financially to take on any debts of his at the moment. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Does the form say why they need your details? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Does the form ask for YOUR details or HIS?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

Has the form got any official number on it that would allow us to see the wording? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

The form is for him but there is a part on it which says partners income including benefits and number of dependant children. It asks about all his outgoings but its me who pays all the bills and buys food etc!!!! He also brought home a budget form from the CAB for me to fill in and which I've made a mess of because it isn't like the budget form on MSE or the CCCS site!!!! Honestly I am so cross!!!!loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0

They need all household income, because non-fixed penalty speeding fines are partly means-tested.
I've had one of these. You must provide your income details.
You aren't liable to pay the fine though.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Has he asked them about paying off the fine in installments? If someone requests to do this then the court will generally ask for details of the household income so they can see what he can afford per month etc. It doesn't mean you are liable though.0

Thanks Withabix, I'll tell them my income but tbh there is no way on earth I'm willing to pay a £700 fine that I'm not responsible for, I'm struggling to survive and hold things together financially as it is without having to sort out the payment of a fine for a speeding offence which I didn't commit.loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0

Mc100 is a statement of means form.
I wouldn't help pay it, though I'm not sure what your alternative is. Assuming he's had his licence for more than two years and I had no penalty points, the maximum fine is £60 according to the website below, follow the link to the calculator..

So by ignoring it since February he's now got to pay upto £700?
I'd want blood!

I have no idea to be honest, we are barely speaking to one another at the moment and as I said earlier have always kept our money separate, he just uses his pension for the car and I use mine for everything else. We don't even use the same bank!!!loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0
