I cant belive how many on here just say they shouldnt pay up...are you all dealers?
Errr........... I've not said that. I hope the OP gets the money back for the repair....................... but with their current attitude no one here can help them. They just came here to state the obvious.

It has been stated many times on this thread that they will probably need to go the small claims court route but unless they have solid evidence of a proper & full service history then I think any case will be torn apart. They seem to feel however that its irrelevant.

A subaru with 300bhp is not a massive increase from the factory figure more than likely just exhaust and filter maybe a chip so no turbo work carried out

Since this is clearly a reply to what I posted. Standard WRX 225bhp. Putting it up to 300bhp is a fairly hefty increase and more than the uprated STi version at the time. So you are well wide of the mark there.
Turbos fail all you can do is look after the car properly have regular oil changes with correct oil for turbo diesels, and have the sense to not cane the it from cold and also let the engine idle for a while before switching off the engine

That's exactly what the rest of my post said except without the lack of fullstops.

    early impreazas had
    wrx's 240bhp sti's 250bhp ra had 270bhp
most imrezas floated around the 240-280bhp mark
the bottom line uk spec turbo 2000 may have had less

You are talking about classics. I'm talking about a newage model. They were 225bhp out of the box so to take it to 300bhp is a near 40% powerhike.

The lesson here is simply not to knock others without first being sure exactly what is being discussed.

  • OK then, since we have HGV turbo experts on the forum, try a light mercedes van working for the Royal Mail or FedEx or somebody like that.

I happen to know that they use the same engine!

ROFL. Light Mercedes van uses a 14 litre V8 diesel engine as fitted in the Actros and every Mercedes Tractor unit since the 80's...

Then why are these companies allowed to keep selling them?
Believe it or not, this forum can't actually change the policies within the motor industry no matter how many times something is posted about!! Its up to individuals to research before they purchase something. If the OP had done the research I'm pretty certain they wouldn't have bought the warranty in the first place!

    did this ever get resolved?
  • yes. small claims court.

If you have the evidence (service history, MoT certificates as a help in verifying mileage, engineers report - these are a must)

The inspecting engineers report was a crock of !!!!: Collapsed turbo bearing due to wear and tear. Well sure, it didn't collapse sitting these stationary doing nothing!!

The inspecting engineer could not credibly make the case that turbo bearing failure should NOT be an insurable event and therefore covered - if it had been piston ring failure or gearbox failure then those components are every bit as subject to wear and tear, yet are insurable (according to the policy).

You can use the fact that "wear and tear" components are regularly replaced as per the maintenance schedule and are things that are EXPECTED to wear out - namely brake brake discs, pads, clutches, etc etc - and every street corner has a QuickFit to replace them for you. Do you see Turbo reconditioners on every street corner?

These companies weasly bar stewards pulling a con ... if you are offered one you know which direction to walk!!
  • I have an astra VXR bought from garage not even 4 months ago they offered me a warranty deal momentum warranties so I ask what dose this cover they told me engine starter turbo so turbo, so started being black smoke so took to garage turbo has gone contact warranty they come out confirm turbo failure, they says this is wear and tear not paying out car has covered 75,000 miles and is 2006 model should they pay out or not?

They wont pay out on wear and tear. 75,000 miles is a short life for a turbo, But it depends on how its been treated.

Regular oil changes with a decent quality oil? Did the previous owner thrash it to death from cold every morning?

If you bought from a trader less than 6 months ago then you should be taking it back to them, Not the warranty company.
Although its a 9 year old car with 75,000 miles. So some wear and tear is expected.
