I try to avoid all marketing - so tick the boxes for no contact (unless it's something I'm interested in). My wins have been amazing.

My personal opinion is it's all down to luck - if you are going to win, it doesn't matter how many boxes you tick / times you enter :D

A: You hardly ever tick for marketing

Only ever time I EVER tick is if I have to in order to enter the competition, or have no choice for whatever reason.

    I have 2-5 wins a month

  • Ans - B: You sometimes tick for it

Not had a win for a few weeks either, so a couple of days ago after reading this thread I've started ticking more, will let you know if I have more wins from now.

    Good luck ev1 :)
  • I'd probably say I'm: B: You sometimes tick for it.

My latest win Westwood Rocks voucher was via a blog comment, so didn't have to tick anything. £100 vouchers via a forum I participate in so no need to tick etc, Feelunique - yes I think I did tick to receive marketing but this was a pintrest/judge competition so don't think this was taken into account and previous wins (only been comping since August), I'd say a mixture of both really.

I think this is a good idea, and over the coming months, I will make an effort to try and remember the marketing options for different competitions in order to give you a better indication of where my wins come from yes to marketing, or no! :)

The information will not be of any statistical use.

Let's say at the end you have this information

Winners who won with a tick = 420
Winners who won without a tick = 210

Clearly winners who tick do better - Wrong
"Tickers" could have entered 3 times more competitions than non-tickers but they only won twice as often.

So winners who don't tick do better - Wrong
80% of all entrants to the competitions were "non-tickers" but they only won 33% of the prizes.

For any given competition you would need to know how many entries there were, the break down between tickers and non-tickers and if the winner was a ticker or not. Even then, given the small number of prizes most competitions have on offer, individual results would be meaningless and you would probably need to collate 1,000's of competition results to have any meaningful data.

If the draw is carried out by a reputable company then a "tick" should only be an advantage if the T&C's say it is (earn an extra entry for sign-up etc).

I sign-up only if I am interested and have not noticed any outstanding success from doing so (just a handful of wins from a 140+ total)

C: You nearly always tick for it

But never tick for 3rd party, I have a sep email account just for comps so don't mind loads of spam.

Winning (don't want to jinx it ) had a really good run, 10 wins this month - but I do enter LOTS of comps as off work for a few months.
