GeoISP

do any of the main telephone providers BT, Pipex, Talk Talk etc. etc. not charge for dialing up to GeoISP?

alot of providers state that internet calls aren't included in free weekend/evening calls but i guess that is assuming they begin 08...

because GeoISP is a geographic 020 number does it sneak under the radar and therefore not get charged (providing you don't go over 90mins or whatever)?

thanks

Once you sign up to 1899, or even 18185, just prefix Geo's number with that code. ie, My dial-up connection uses 18185 020 8114 9845.

Easy, although it may take an hour or so after inital registration for the prefix to operate.

I checked my BT Option 3 online bill, and they were charging for geoisp under other calls. I have raised a query about this, but haven't had a reply yet. They specifically do not include 'internet calls' in the 'free' calls allowance. I think I will have to try 1899 etc.
I think BT must have rumbled the Geoisp number.

I had my BT bill this morning and since 22nd March I have been charged 1p/min for off peak calls to 020 8114 9845 instead of the 6p for the first hour that I was charged before.

Does anyone know of any other geographic numbers that are providing a cheap dial-up service that BT still charge 6p for the first hour?

Does that mean that the MIP service (2000 min for £10) is now the cheapest dial-up service for light users?

P.S. I was thinking about what could be behind this change. Do people think Goe ISP has told BT about their service and they now get more income from the call charges or could this be BT finding out about it and knowing they can get away with charging the higher rate but keep all the extra charges for themselves?

Have you tried signing up with 18185, then route the call via 18185, have the software dial 18185,020 8114 9845 . Some people have more success than others.

    Probably BT finding out.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I noticed these charges on my online bill last month.

I complained .......LOTS!......and eventually got an email saying that these charges would be dropped.

Whether they will or not is a different matter.

I posted a thread about it, have a look down the board.

The reason you are charged in full is because you are making data calls. The first 60 minutes for 5.5p at E&W is for speech only.Bt have cottoned on.

Avoid this by using the likes of https://www.18185.co.uk . Just 5p connection to call the Geo number stay on as long as you like, call is free.

Okay, thanks guys I will look into the 18158 solution that look prommising!

So BT are just profiteering? I have never like the distinction thay make in their T&C between data and voice calls. So this is just another example of a big company screwing the consumer?

Can anyone offer any advice on how best to contest these charges? Aren't they supposed to give people notice if they intend to change the call rate? What's the best legal argument to use?

Calls with inclusive packages and calls where it is 6p for upto 1 hour, for example, have to be accounted for. The more people make, the more likely it is that they will have to put price up.

There was a page on BT.com you could go to to see if it was excluded. Don't know where it is now. I've contacted someone at BT and hopefully they can tell me.
