Highlighted , too many are still into the falseness of what they can afford , small bills are better than large bills, once the hit is taken on a handset, the ongoing costs can be very low.
The only benefit for a contract is that people can have their handset on the never never.......oh and perhaps more airtime on the same £ for £ basis.

Good point, although I still feel £10.00 a month for the Blackberry, unlimited texts, 100 minutes calls and unlimited internet seemed like a good deal it has still left me with no handset just because the damn thing failed when out of their 'warranty'. I had been with Orange for at least ten years and not really had any major problems before but they've lost me for good as a customer now.

I was with them from launch and kept my account for more than 13 years, they were good to start with but after Hans Snook went so did the service quality and VFM, the £10 deal I get flyers from Virgin quite often, so not sure it is a great or unique as you may 1st imagine :o
  • Not sure any other provider would have done any different.

I was thinking this. I don't think any of the networks would offer you a replacement free of charge in the same circumstances.

Yes, this is the problem, I know trying to fight Orange in court is something I certainly don't have the money to do (I am registered disabled, live on benefits and the phone is a lifeline).

My contract is £10.00 a month, which was the cheapest I could find at the time. However, on principle, I'm not going to 'upgrade' with Orange in January now and I will go somewhere else. I don't need a 'Blackberry' I've only got it as Orange offered me as part of the £10 a month deal, I'd be just as happy to have a different phone and pay less, if I can find it, elsewhere.

plenty of handsets on eBay for £10

The kit for the keyboard membrane is £4.99, but it will require somebody with some competency to replace it.

    1. You have been given the facts. The fact is, if something breaks after 6 months it's down to YOU to prove it was faulty at the time of sale, ie an inherent fault. To do this, you need a report from an independent person qualified to assess and repair this type of equipment. You need to pay for this, and you can claim it back later - that's the way the law works and if you don't like it, tough.

Google your phone and the problem with it and see how many results you get, if its pretty high follow the advice above, as stated if its proven to be an inherent fault you can reclaim the cost of the report from the phone supplier,

Those kits are, from what I can see, only for tidying up the 'outside' of scruffy handsets. It may solve the problem but, if I suspect, the problem is more complicated than that, something wrong with it 'internally' then I'm guessing it won't solve the issue anyway, sadly.

I have actually already done this and, interestingly enough, it does seem to be quite a common problem with these phones. I'm not, however, in a position to pay upfront for a report but if I ever am, I'll give it a go. Does anyone have any idea how much these kind of reports might cost?

Thanks, custardy, but I don't need a secondhand handset now as I've got one that from a friend that is now working. As I don't seem to be be in a postion to pay for a report on my phone at the moment, I'll just have to stick with it until my contract runs out and I can look elsewhere for a better deal.
