Having a massive balance (even if it is the case) and wasting it are not the same. Usually it is much cheaper to settle out of court and usually they do exactly this.0 -
You can pick up used BB 8520's for about £55.
Thanks but that's about the amount of money I have to live off for a week. I can, just about, afford, the £10.00 a month for the contract but I don't have any extra money.0 -

If you just want a phone to make calls and send texts, you can get the Nokia 100 for £15.0

Ask friends or family if they have a handset sitting in a drawer you can borrow until your able to get your free upgrade...
I did think of this, however, I've tried two 'old' Orange phones that people lent me and for some reason the SIM won't work in either of them. It just says 'No SIM' when I try. I'm no phone expert but just wondering if it's some kind of 'phone specific' SIM that will only work in Blackbkerry or 3G phones (it says 3G on the SIM)0 -

It is not against the forum rules to tell posters the truth even if it is not what they want to hear, if there was an easy loophole, somebody would have suggested that to you already.
It's all to do with how something is said, I was just trying to ascertain certain facts (even in this post several people trying to help have contradictory views so its not always easy) and, whilst I was trying to get to the bottom of my problem some people have been very rude so it was best to report them.0 -

Perhaps the unit can be repaired for not too much money, have you tried that route? The bottom of it is that Orange are unlikely to budge on their stance.0 -

I know what you are saying about Orange, I may see if a local shop can repair it but, if they want more than about £30.00 then I might as well just buy another, very cheap/rubbish phone on a different contract, just for emergencies until my Orange contract runs out next March.0 -
I have to agree with the others, if you have had your handset for 14 months since your original contract started then you will not be able to get a free replacement from Orange.
The SOGA (I believe) states that at the point you purchase the item, in has to be be free from defects, fit for purpose and working. After 6 months of purchase, the onus is on the buyer to prove the item had an inherent fault when it was first purchased. That is why people have suggested getting an independent report done. As you say this is not cost effective for you though.
Orange own the warranty for Blackberry too and they will replace free of charge for the first 12 mths with blackberry. It's 6 months with all other manufacturers. They also offer a 90 day warranty on all replacements in addition to SOGA. E.g. If u had a replacement for a fault at month 5 of contract, that warranty would give you up until month 8.
Your best option is using an old handset off someone. If the ones you have tried don't work, you might be able to get a new SIM sent to try.0
