I have to say, personally i don't understand why the thread is split. I get that some people start new budgets early, but as most of us keep our budgets in our signature, it doesn't make any difference. I end up missing sometimes 10 days of posts, which i know i could be reading alongside October, but I dont. The fact we are one thread, that becomes 2 at one stage and then one again has always been annoying and you do feel a bit left behind and feel like you are talking to yourself a bit when everyone moves over. I think it would be much nicer to just do it monthly and everyone moves over at the same time. Anyway my opinion and as always, thanks to the lovely people who give up their time to manage these threads. p.s. i have gone over budget and have receipts, which i will update soon.
It does get a bit lonely on the old thread, though I keep checking till the end, as does Coxy, but keeping the new thread back till the 1st of each month would mean that people whose payday comes before the end of the month would have nowhere to post their progress. There are so many variations here, some start their challenge a few days before the end of the month, and we have a number of people who run their challenge from 15th of each month, to tie in with their payday, difficult to know how better to do it when we're trying to suit so many different 'months'... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Needed a few things yesterday and have now spent £218.84
Will be going to Ald! tomorrow or Friday and must remember some sultanas. Went to Morri$ons annd all they had was an empty space where they should have been, so looks like everyone has started to make their christmas cakes. Also want to get a sack of potatoes from local green grocers. They were £6.99 last lot but expect they have gone up at least £1
Half term here next week so we will be having the grandchildren a few days so will need a few extras this week for them plus halloween. I forgot about this when I lowered our budget at the start of the month but will try to keep over spends to a minimum.
Have made some rolls today and we having chicken cannelloni for tea using some bits of chicken that was in the freezer.
rosieben and Coxy Another full week for us before we start in Nov so I will be here with you for company .:)MARCH £62.38/2500 -

Have a birthday voucher from biggreensmile for 10% off plus free postage (wahoo!) on any one order - am thinking about squeezing a bit of a stock up in at the end of the month.0 -
Hi everyone
My month ends on Friday so I have signed up to the Nov thread as we are so chuffed with how the GC has helped us stay on track. We have just done our first ever GC and we are going to come in under budget even though i did have a small spend today.
I called into Mr M tonight on my way home from work to get some bread and got some real YS bargains which hardly ever happens to me. In got 3 x 800g farmhouse loaves, 2 x 800g hedgehog loaves, a wholemeal loaf, a pack of Cadbury's cake bars, three packs of Mr Kipling's Halloween cake bars and a large iced Madagascar 3 birthday cake and 2 packs of wraps for £2.94:money: Couldn't believe my luck :j:j
Will update my signature and that really should be it now.
Have a great rest of October:D

What are you making?
I hope to be making two dozen small Christmas Puddings (Old School recipe) and about a dozen Christmas cakes (each a third of the mix size) - baked in my milk-saucepan-cake-tins with the handles removed - Oh and mincemeat to the Delia recipe except with pecans instead of any other nuts. I've joined the local fundraising committee and there is a Christmas sale in November. I shall take some HM jam too but that is mostly made (though there are still 2011 plums and damsons in the outside freezer; maybe some damson vodka too...). I make them all as if households are 1-2 people as so many are and people like hm but many can't be bothered, don't have time or don't have the skills so it is my offering. Loads of other people knit, crochet, embroider, paint, craft or whatever - I cook! (it relaxes me!)
SLSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread
My new diary is here0 -
Small spend today of 65p on burger buns (forgot to bake some last night ), £1.24 on jalapeños and £1.40 on savers chips. I prefer HM but OH isn't keen and as he was cooking I didn't argue.
Also bought three ounces* of YS peaches (half price) to make chutney with - not a massive saving for YS but I wanted to make th chutney anyway. Not counting the peaches, or the apples, vinegar or sultanas I had to buy, as the chutney is for Christmas hampers and I have a budget for Christmas presents. Of course I will keep a couple of jars, but these will be a present to myself
