  • As it's into my last 2 weeks of the challenge, I am as usual having to economise even more. Not sure why I do this every month - you would think I'd learn to spend a bit more evenly through the month ;) .

I've managed to meal plan and buy nearly everything for the week for the 4 of us for £60 - yay! And I've got a few things in the freezer for next week too so hopefully I can do the same next week. I need to if I'm to stay within my budget this month - well, I can always hope!

Morning! Just also ingredients for a fruit cake made with mincemeat which I've re-found the recipe for! If only I didn't enjoy baking so much I'd save £s and lbs!:p

Any chance of the recipe for the fruit cake with the mincemeat ingrediants as I have a jar in the cupboard to use up :D
I have Delia's Christmas cookbook, and there is a recipe in it similar to this one http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisine/european/english/christmas-sherry-mincemeat-cake.html You can use whatever dried fruit you have so long as the weight is right, and I don't use alcohol so don't bother to soak the fruit either! It's a good standby recipe for when you need a quick fruit cake.

    hi guys,
I was thinking I might want to start buying cheap soups to stock up with as they are so very cheap.
I usually buy Heinz tomato soup and we really like that one but does anyone know how the cheap tesco, sainsb or asdas one is?
Thanks and have a great evening
Mr A is doing Heinz soups for 50p at the moment, so I've been stocking up as well :) but you can make very cheap tomato soup with an onion, a tin of cheap toms, and some veg stock. Cook the onion in water and stock until soft, add the toms, heat through and blitz with a hand blender or a food processor. Very easy :)

I've managed another NSD, but lost track of how many this month :o Well done everyone for at least trying to keep on track, even if we're not always successful.

thanks mscd, will try it out as I have everything in today. We love tomato soup, does asda do the tomatosoup with basil for 50p as well?

But if somebody could still tell me about the cheap tomato soups as I wanted to stock them up for times when I need them, thanks

I make my own soup as it so easy and cheap to do Yesterday I finished off the last of my parsnip and apple soup that I had in the freezer and today as I have quite a few carrots that could do with using up I am going to make some spicy carrot and coriander soup (probably about 2 litres) so some will be for lunch and the rest will get portioned up in my soft freezer pouches for freezing when cold .You can buy these for around a pound for 8 in the pound shop or as I did several years ago in Lakeland ,but they are a bit dearer in there.brilliant for storing stuff though and I have even frozen stew portions in them Because they are soft ther store a lot flatter than boxes or bottles so you can tuck them around bits of spare space in the freezer when they are semi frozen to fit iyswim.
Well I did a small shop this morning buying only what I needed and have done my menus for the week and so I have at least a week of NSDs in front of me.Only spent £29.67 since 1st October so I am very pleased so far
Well done everyone on your efforts half way through the month almost and I'm still under budget :):):)

Hi, just spent £20.60 on some Donald Russell minced steak to try. There is a great deal and code for 20% off with free delivery over on hotukdeals.com so I thought I would give it a go seeing as DR meat is so highly rated on here. Still staying within my budget so far.

Just a tip, I used to have a flatmate who loved the tomato & basil soup but she often bought the normal tomato one if it was on offer & then added a pinch of dried basil - it tasted the exact same.

Well I had a small grocery spend yesterday and when I have fought off my hangover I will find the receipt :o but I got my FIRST EVER good YS deals! The Mr M near me never reduces past half price but yesterday I went into our local Mr T garage around 7pm to get milk and they had amazing reductions!

Got two 400g packs of turkey breast for 36p each which I have bunged in the freezer (normal price £3.50 I think). Normally am really strict about only buying free range but I figured I was saving it from landfill so it was ok :D also got a bag of cubed carrot & swede for only 10p (down from £1 - think I'll make soup) and a squishy lemon for 3p which I used for dinner. Now off to google turkey recipes as I don't have a clue :rotfl:

YES the tomato/tomato & basil/chicken/mushroom/oxtail/veg/leek & potato etc are all 50p each. I got 8 last week and 8 yesterday. I make my own soup but we all like Heinzzz tom soup so have stocked up on it and hopefully will get more next week.
Have spent more money today but will have to update later as receipt in car and DH just gone out.
