Thanks Marvin and thanks for joining the forums especially to participate in my thread, I really appreciate it. I think I will post on the original forum that I found out about this offer from and warn all the others, no matter what idle threats this Louise person has made to me, and if its OK with you I will quote your text (I'll just say it was a friend rather than ID you).0

I just had to say...I am flabergasted!
I make my living answering customer's emails - no, not for them lol, and I'd be out on my hiney if I ever even came accross a tenth as rude as they have been.
I'd be shouting out about them.
Anyhoo, on to nitpickWouldn't it actually be libel - I though slander was spoken/actions, and libel was written?
And....the whole point of slander/libel/defermation is that it is UNTRUE. Ahem....as long as you just tell you story as is, they don't have a leg to stand on. Plus, if it is a 2 man band, they are hardley likely to have the readies required to carry a court case. Proud DFW Nerd 135 :cool:Sealed Pot Challenge - 0190 -
> slander is when something is spoken, libel is when something is written
Sort of - slander is temporary and libel is permanent, so something spoken can be libellous if, for instance, it is recorded and transmitted on television and recorded.0 -
I was under the impression that a secure server is a chargeable service to the business. If this is correct then maybe by undercutting the products by up to 80% they are not making enough money to pay for it. If this is correct then they are best avoided anyway as they could go under at any point.
SSL certificates don't cost a massive amount of money, definately not something that they'd not be making enough to pay for.
It's very little on top of the price of a web hosting package.0 -
Everyone should call them up and tell them how they feel. Eventually they will get a secure website and new staff. They should tell them how their purchase has impacted on their lives since the unsecure purchase. Explain that they are concerned about their details getting into the wrong hands. Ask about a discount / compensation
Or just not shop there.0 -

I'll go for that one...but the whole security issue is worrying and something that needs to addressed.0 -
is there any kind of law or rules about this? It seems very dodgy that they can claim a site to be secure when it's not, is there any governing kind of body to cover online transactions/payments?
I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that for certain. Thanks Marvin and thanks for joining the forums especially to participate in my thread, I really appreciate it. You're welcome, and I'm more than happy for you to quote me.I'd also add that a number of Internet service providers (ISPs) use what are called "transparent proxies" for non-secure Web traffic, so even if you (or the person who installed your internet service) did not set up your Web browser to use a proxy server explicitly, you may be using one without knowing it. In short, it's reasonable to assume that any non-secure Web traffic you generate can be seen by someone else.
That said, it is also fair to point out that this may be an honest mistake on the part of the company. If it's a small outfit and they're not Web-savvy, they may simply be repeating what the organization that sold them the e-commerce service has told them. That doesn't excuse their dreadful customer service, however, nor their reaction to your pointing out that the checkout system isn't really secure.0 -
The thing I found funny is that on the website where she plugged her own company, with the ' I hear they offer discounts...' lark, she actually put her own name to it (and was instantly recognised and ridiculed).
If she had any brains, surely she'd have signed it with a psuedonym, or not at all.

She does on some sites, janedoe99 seems to be her fave, oh and there's a Daniel Walden posting discount codes he just happened to find on some other sites too :rolleyes:0 -
OMG How very very very unprofessional. There is NOTHING in your first email to warrant the response you received imo,
.
as you'd expect i beg to differ.
She started off attacking them saying she was disgusted with the service, she wished she hadn't bothered, unimpressed with the service and will be posting on another website to tell others.
She hadn't even given the company the chance to explain what had happened with the order before she attacked them and threatened to spread bad press about them.0
