Hi Tim. I am tempted to buy the silent night miratex mattress and was wondering on your thoughts there.

Please do a search in the MSE forums for Silentnight first.

This is the problem with ebay feedback. There are actually two or three companies on ebay selling fake memory foam mattresses, but they have good feedback because most buyers don't realise that they aren't memory foam, and are in fact cheap reflex foam.

Just wanted to confirm this as I have had this experience on ebay. I bought a couple of so called memory foam pillows but received reflex foam ones. The seller had previously received good feedback on other sales of these which is why I purchased them. Unfortunately for the seller, the manufacturer had sent them direct and the postage franking label had the manufacturers name on it. I Googled the manufacturer and gave them a ring. They told me what I already knew, that they were not memory foam and in any case they did not want their goods being sold on ebay.

I buy things on ebay all the time but would advise people not to rely on the feedback system too much. It is definitely flawed.

    Did you complain?

Yes, I did. The seller offered to take the items back as long as I paid the postage. I live in Northern Ireland so the postage was going to be a few quid and I thought, once I return these, they have my money and the pillows! I didn't bother in the end and decided it was a lesson learned. I have learned a few more since then, but that would take me completely off topic! Most people would not believe the scams that go on, so I would advise to always use a credit card for purchases, especially on ebay.

On a slightly different note, having read through the bulk of this thread. Can I say a big thank you for all the information you have provided in quite a few posts. They are very informative and I can honestly say I have learned a few things about mattresses.

I have looked at a few ads on ebay but none will ship to Northern Ireland. I guess there has to be someone over here who can do a good deal. Anyone know?

I really do think you should name and shame the seller. Also it would be good if you could give the make and model of the pillows so that other people aren't conned into thinking they are memory foam.

Also complain about the seller to ebay.

I know it is difficult to find independent manufacturers in NI, but if you can then I think that would be your best bet.

I'm seriously considering getting a new memory foam single mattress and have narrowed it down to either a Sleep Assured or Ergoflex one. The Sleep Assured is about half the price and is mainly sold on Ebay, although they also have their own site where it can be bought directly from.

I'm tempted to get a Sleep Assured but can only find reviews of their product on Ebay, which I find surprising considering the volume they appear to be selling. Has anyone bought one and if so what's it like?

You will find that as a general rule only the large brands tend to appear in review sites, except for the companies who have added reviews themselves. This is because not many people bother to leave reviews, so it is just by chance that someone who does leave reviews would happen to buy a mattress from a smaller manufacturer.

I see your point, but on Review Centre, for example, there are quite a few reviews for smaller brands, but just none at all for Sleep Assured.

In my OPINION the most important thing is to test mattresses in the shops to appreciate the difference between specs and best understand your personal preference. If you find what you like then go for it - alternatively shop online to see if you can find a cheaper alternative that matches.

    Hope this helps.

Doesn't always work with memory foam. I've read quite a few reviews of the foam losing its shape and not performing well just after a few months. I've seens especially bad reviews for Sealy ones.
