Would you appreciate this gift on the arrival of a new baby?

I thought at first it was a lovely gift, but on second thoughts, it is a bad time to give mum all that fattening chocolate when all she wants to do is get rid of the bump (and the rest of the fat we have accumulated during pregnancy) So no, its a gift that I personally would give or appreciate in the long term
That's what I was thinking. Bad timing with all the chocolate. I'd prefer something a bit more practical xThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Well i had a baby via c-section 17 weeks ago and I would have loved this

Someone bought us chocolates and we were really grateful. Everyone else had bought us baby stuff so it made a nice change.
And I can honestly say that after having major surgery the last thing on my mind was trying to loose weight and get back to my pre pregnancy figure. I was more than happy with new baby cuddles laced with chocolate

Or would you prefer a different gift?
I have never had children so don't know what kinds of gifts are appreciated on the birth of a little one.
I don't live anywhere close to my friend so cannot help out in any practical way (childcare, cooking a few meals etc) unfortunately.
Any suggestions or comments would be fab! Thanks
I'm sure they'd appreciate whatever you bought. We usually go down the clothes/practical stuff route. I don't think it's ever occurred to us to give something different.0 -

What an awful lot of pressure we put on ourselves to lose weight and 'ping' back into shape a few days after giving birth - how sad! I agree that it shouldn't be a long term thing if mum needs / wants to lose weight but fail to see how a choccy hamper, that will be shared with hubby, daughter and probably the stream of visitors will genuinely make a difference to her long term weight loss0 -
Personally I wouldn't have wanted chocolates at this time. I wanted to lose weight as quickly as possible, not because I felt 'under pressure', I just feel happier when I am a normal weight and can wear normal clothes. I would also prefer my children not to eat too much chocolate.
I would have preferred toiletries or fresh flowers as a personal gift , though of course baby things are always lovely and very welcome!0 -

Yes! I'm expecting and really hope someone will think of me after the birth

A friend of mine recently had a baby and she put a lovely picture on Facebook of her in bed on the maternity ward with the baby and a big box of chocs on her lap, she was in heaven!0 -
I have to admit that I was greatful for any gift that I got when our son was born....the gifts that included clothing were obviously very useful, particularly those who went for a larger size than newborn....no one thought of chocolates but I would have loved them, thoses that came bearing food were particularly welcome as too were those who just wanted to hold the baby whilst I had a sleep or a bath!!!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Thanks guys for all your advice.
It arrived today and she loved it
Thorntons cut off half my message though so don't be too verbose if you also plan on giving this to someone as a gift
