You are still beating your partner a simple yes or no?
    I think....
  • lol, love the thread you can just see this guys living room. Book case full of conspiracy theories inc how those Tories are responsible for well everything lol. Copy of socialist worker on the table. Picture of Scargill on the wall. lol.

It's funny how having to do the tough things gets you the reputation of the nasty party, I bet Labour were relieved they didn't get in.

If you think the cuts are so wrong and everything would be all nice and Rosy if only they taxed them millionaires lol, ask yourself why there are protests in Portugal, Spain, Greece, and Ireland against austerity? Are they all wrong (did Maggie tell them to be nasty also lol).

We have had the party 96-2008 its pay back time, hard though it is we have to do it how much longer can we spend more than we take in? (AKA deficit), never mind the TRILLION we owe!!

I voted Tory btw, I wanted to see public sector pensions reigned in (so job half done).

Vile self centered cowards all of them.

I think condemning ALL Tories is going too far and voting Tory does not make anyone a coward. After all if you adhere to a philosophy based on personal self interest and do not approve of most public services its the natural thing to do.

The fact is that fanatics (on either side) do not get elected on the merits of their arguments. They win because they convince enough of the fickle majority to vote for them.

But if you must condemn the Party, I think this is a far more passionate way of saying it:
No amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

To be honest, I expected far better from the coalition – I really had high hopes after all the 'we're all in this together' statements. However, it has become quite clear to me that we are not all in this together, and that the tax burden is being very unfairly distributed, with the extremely wealthy (probably among them many politicians) loosing far less (if anything) than people earning quite mediocre salaries. To an extent, I feel that I've been duped.

I do agree with some of the policies with regard to benefits payments to those who do not want to work, but could, and to people who come to this country solely to gain benefits, etc. On the education side, too, there are signs that something good may come of the steps the government is proposing.

What I cannot understand is all the apparent dithering, with everything seeming to happen after 2015 or 2016. Is this a deliberate strategy? Because if it is, it ain't working for me.

As far as I'm concerned, though, the worst thing that this government has done is to allow the culling of our native European Badger population. This is a vile and brutal act, one that should not have been even contemplated. In my view no expense should have been spared on more research on Bovine TB, and on providing vaccinations for both cattle and badgers. This government's stance on the issue alone will lose both parties currently in power my vote.

Well it's already been admitted that they didn't want to take the lead in a coalition party, hence the lack of offers from labour to the lib dems.

Basically, that's stating, "nah, you can have it". Best move labour could have made in the situtation if you ask me.

It's ok slamming a party while backing another. But backing another party who wouldn't even take the situation on is a little hypocritical.

I did help out by running one over, was an accident though so I cannot take that much credit from the local farmers.

presumably the fact that labour and the libdems wouldn't have had a clear majority didn't come into the calculation?

    I can't disagree with you. :D

The problem with the conservatives is that they have never accepted that the business of government has a social dimension. They are a party of businesspeople and believe that you can run a country like a business. Unfortunately it's not that simple - there are deep and fundamental issues in our society that cannot be solved by cutting benefits or fiddling the official rate of inflation so that it appears lower than it actually is. The Tories believe in 'laissez faire' capitalism and decreasing the role of the state - totally the opposite of what we need. We need more state power and intervention and strong measures to prevent capitalism from becoming distorted and dominated by oligarchs, at the expense of ordinary people.

Have you ever considered that its government intervention with capitalism that caused all the problems as aposed to not enough intervention? Imagine if banks "too big to fail" had been allowed to fail. All of a sudden, all the other banks realise that they can fail too. Regulation isnt needed as the threat of failure is there and real. Also, failure of big nasty greedy banks allows the sensible "little guy" banks who have been careful and prudent to grow.

There is a town in the Netherlands called Drachten. All road markings and traffic lights have been removed. Instead of accidents going up, the number of accidents have gone down. The theory is that drivers are more cautiously as they arent being managed and regulated. Why not apply the same to all businesses? - remove regulation and allow them to fail - then they have an incentive to behave
