they look like a party of career politicians who don't know what they're doing to me. a bit like the labour party. We need more state power and intervention and strong measures to prevent capitalism from becoming distorted and dominated by oligarchs, at the expense of ordinary people.
as demonstrated by the labour party's 13 year term of government when they created more new laws or regulations than can possibly be fathomed, and then we all watched as the rich got richer at the expense of "ordinary people".
the problem ain't the tories, or labour, it's both of them. (the lib dems would also be the problem if they weren't so irrelevant).0 -
Vile self centered cowards all of them.
All the political parties are effectively the same thing now anyway. Labour certainly do not represent the average man in the street anymore.
Doesn't matter what political party is in power, they will commit the same mistakes, nothing with change, then bankers and the wealthy will still dictate policy and we'll stick to boom and bust.
I honestly think turn out at the next general election will be embarrassing and it's needed to show these people that the political system in the country needs wholesale reform and that MP's will be held accountable for broken promises and pledges.
Why can't we start by getting the likes of Topshop and Vodafone to pay their full taxes every year like the rest of us. They make multi billions out of the UK and get away with paying nothing in taxes. You want to trade in the UK, you pay full taxes, if you don't, then there will a UK entrepreneur ready to fill the supply for the demand for that product or service.
Stopping the mass murder through illegal wars would be a second. I'm sure the billions we save there could be used to boost the economy.
There is no one credible to vote for, there is no political party that will make a difference and there hasn't been for sometime.0 -
To be honest, I expected far better from the coalition – I really had high hopes after all the 'we're all in this together' statements. However, it has become quite clear to me that we are not all in this together, and that the tax burden is being very unfairly distributed, with the extremely wealthy (probably among them many politicians) loosing far less (if anything) than people earning quite mediocre salaries. To an extent, I feel that I've been duped.
I do agree with some of the policies with regard to benefits payments to those who do not want to work, but could, and to people who come to this country solely to gain benefits, etc. On the education side, too, there are signs that something good may come of the steps the government is proposing.
What I cannot understand is all the apparent dithering, with everything seeming to happen after 2015 or 2016. Is this a deliberate strategy? Because if it is, it ain't working for me.
As far as I'm concerned, though, the worst thing that this government has done is to allow the culling of our native European Badger population. This is a vile and brutal act, one that should not have been even contemplated. In my view no expense should have been spared on more research on Bovine TB, and on providing vaccinations for both cattle and badgers. This government's stance on the issue alone will lose both parties currently in power my vote.
Well said ,regarding the last paragraph.Their stance on any animal welfare issue is appalling, but what can you expect from a self confessed hunter as a prime minister.

"No amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
Aneurin Bevan"
Bevan was a preposterous, irresponsible, bleating windbag.
Such words from an alleged mainstream politician are an insult to the intelligence. The fact that so many on the left still harbour such irrational, emotive prejudices goes a long way to explaining why Labour demonstrates itself time and time again to be inherently unfit to govern.
No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Imagine if banks "too big to fail" had been allowed to fail. All of a sudden, all the other banks realise that they can fail too. Regulation isnt needed as the threat of failure is there and real. Also, failure of big nasty greedy banks allows the sensible "little guy" banks who have been careful and prudent to grow.
There is a town in the Netherlands called Drachten. All road markings and traffic lights have been removed. Instead of accidents going up, the number of accidents have gone down. The theory is that drivers are more cautiously as they arent being managed and regulated. Why not apply the same to all businesses? - remove regulation and allow them to fail - then they have an incentive to behave
Philosophical musings. The fact is that laissez-faire mentality assumes that people will always instinctively do the right thing, but this is not true. You have a point with the banks, however in the economy at large the laissez-faire approach favours the strong at the expense of the weak and unscrupolous at the expense of the ethical.0 -

Done, Good ole Brian May.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Brian May is my hero.Along with people like Paul Mccartney who use their fame and fortune to help the defenceless creatures who sadly have to share this earth with the most destructive animal of all..........MAN.0

I do not know if the turn out will be low but there will be a lot of people unsure of which party to vote for. None inspire confidence I agree.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Thanks very much, Froglet – I have signed it. I also wrote to my MP a couple of days ago, saying more or less what I said here about the badger issue. (He doesn't disagree.)0 -
presumably the fact that labour and the libdems wouldn't have had a clear majority didn't come into the calculation?
Not really, they knew they could gain a majority, it was laid out on the table for them. Just bring a fringe party in. No need to pretend there wasn't a deal to be made.0
