Hospital Car Parking fines Help Help!!

  • I'm slightly confused by this matter.

Is the original poster saying they neglected to show a scratchcard 63 times (!) and effectively got 'free' parking for 63 days whilst everyone else in the car park had paid their £1 for parking?

Is is a contact of employment to pay for parking/is it taken out of the posters wages?

I also work in a hospital with a scratchcard scheme - I would be a bit cheesed off if someone got away with 63 days of free parking when I had paid, but then again if you can get away with it then why am I (or anyone else!) paying!

My hospital car park is owned by an independent company though, not the hospital (if that makes a difference). I assumed if I didn't pay I would have my staff permit taken away and no longer get the reduced staff rate and would have to pay 5 times as much!

    Back to the op.

Have you been buying scratch cards, at a reduced rate, then not using them, and the hospital have been wondering where they have gone to?
Do they think they have a suspicion they have been used elsewhere?
Or have you simply not bought them?
It is two months parking out of twelve that have to be accounted for after all.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice so far. The trust has handed me a notice requesting a formal interview under caution in respect the possibility that i have being involved in fraud. They have not provided any details, just a generic letter. The interview is voluntary but the the fraud department chap who handed me the letter said that if i ignore it they will get the police to arrest me and interview me. I asked a laywer in a pro bono practice, who said he would attend the interview but as no legal aid is available (as its not a police interview) he would charge me for. I dont have that kind of money.

    What are my options??

I find this very hard to believe. What exactly is a "caution" from an NHS trust? What does it consist of, and what legal significance does it have?

    Sounds like nonsense to me.

    Agree.

And anyway, isn't this forum supposed to be about claiming back unfair parking charges, not just trying to get out of paying for parking??!!

Agree but we shouldn't judge people just offer advice and hopefully it will help them, though not paying 63 times is pushing it a bit.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

I suggested to him ages ago that he demonstrate good faith by offering to pay for the 63 days' parking, but I guess he hasn't done so. If this is genuine then he sounds like one of those people who isn't really interested in helping himself.

not paying in a retaurant is not a crime. Volenti non fit injuria when they allow you to dine first and pay after...
What? Volenti is not remotely applicable. In what way does the fact that there's a chance you might rip the off make it OK to rip them off? You might as well argue that it's OK to nick stuff from a shop because they chose to put it out on the shelves where you could reach it. Or that if I leave my front door open, it's OK for someone to walk into my house and nick my TV.
and besides, if you are not happy with the service, you can openly refuse to part with a penny.
The offences of making off without payment (Theft Act 1978 s3) and dishonestly obtaining services (Fraud Act 2006 s11) both require dishonest intent. If you genuinely believe that the food and/or service were so bad that you shouldn't have to pay for them, there would be no dishonest intent and therefore no offence. If you didn't pay because you just fancied some free food, that would be dishonest, and you'd be committing an offence.
  • After reading all the information on this site & the forums i am a little less concerned but still would like reassurance from anyone in the same situation.
Over the last 3 days i have received 12 letters from 'Vinci', a private car park that is within the grounds of the hospital i work. They are telling me if i dont get in contact within 14 days then they will hand over my details to a debt collection agency!

I will hold my hands up & say i have not always paid/parked in the correct areas of the designated parking sites, simply because there is just not enough parking facilities for staff let alone patients & visitors! I am also an emergency on call Radiographer & therefore can be called at all hours of day & night to attend work for emergency scans. I have been given tickets at 2,3,4am for not parking in 'specific bays'.
I intend to write a letter with help from this site, a don't however have photo evidence of my car, simply because at 3am i have more important things on my mind like providing an emergency service & doing my job!!

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
