  • Hi all...

After months of reading these most helpful posts and Martins extremely helpul e-mails I decided to sign up and start posting myself ! So here goes...

I headed down to my newsagent's today here in Belfast in search of "Rugby World". I found it and sure enough inside was an application form for Capital One "The Real Deal" 0% for 18 months !!!!! I am delighted. ;D ;D ;D

SO......To anyone here in Northern Ireland - it is available ! ;D

Incidently, I had phoned up Capital One twice in the past week, trying various tactics, only to be told on both occasions, "Sorry - invitation only". :-[

Anyhow, I now have the form and am filling it in. [Ref No: 8454-103] [also SF000650]. However, I have a few questions I was wondering if anyone can answer for me.

I ma hoping to get a BT of around £8000 into my ABBEY credit card (issued by MBNA). CapitalOne say there is no charge for this. At the minute my balance in my ABBEY card is £0.00. So, in other words, I will be placing my ABBEY card £8000 in credit. I then want to transfer this to my bank account. It seems ABBEY will do this OK - although they said it was "unusual". Does anyone know if there is a charge for this ? Is this, as a general rule for credit cards, completely free when one is in credit ? I'm not doing this with my other card, Halfax One, as they do not transfer to a bank acount. (I will however pay off the very small debt on it via another free BT from CapitalOne). However, I wouldn't want to do this if CapitalOne end up only giving me the 6 months option. If it works OK then I will then write a cheque from my bank account and pay off a loan (which is curently at 8.0% APR). I will then be left with a nice 0% loan for the next 18 months. ;D

I haven't done this before, so I guess I'm just looking for clarification that it can be done !? Specifically, can I place one of my cards significantly in credit as oppsed to debt, and then transfer this out to a bank account ?

Anyhow - to those who haven't got the application form yet - keep looking - its worth it ! And keep phoning and phoning CapitalOne. If you are here in Northern Ireland, you will definitely be able to find a form in Rugby World (as they all come from the same supplier here in NI).
  • "Rugby world" in London only has the 6 month 0% deal!!...shame!

Guys, Just been into WHSmith in Bournemouth (Dorset), and finally (after trailing supermarkets and newsagents all week) I found it... The golden ticket.... :o

Go take a look in "four four two" but its probably regional too. :(

Here's the best bit, I have FOUR applications, first ones for me, the great Martin has first option on the second, the others are up for whoever PM's me telling me how wonderful I am ;D

If your a lucky, you just need to send me a SAE and wedge of money (only joking) ;D

Its 7:30 they will be gone in seconds so don't PM me past 8.00pm I will let you know if there are any still available. :)

    Thanks Tony

Yes you can put your cards in credit with no problem. Many credit card companies will allow you to take out credit balances and pay them into your bank account, after all you may have just made a mistake and overpaid. However the normal way of doing it is to put the credit balance onto a "Super Balance Transfer" credit card. These are cards which allow you to transfer money to your bank account online or by a special "cheque" without having to answer any questions, whether you are in credit or debt! There are articles on this on the main site. SBT cards include Egg and Mint.

OK, I have had lots of replies and will let the lucky people know soon. I still need Martin to let me know if he wants one, so its the first 2 or 3 people who will get one (I feel like willy Wonker), will let you know as soon as Martin comes back to me.

    Its closed now... sorry

Four Four Two was in the sports section, I think its a football mag but did not take much notice (is that not a line up (4-4-2)?

I'm no football fan, I'm sure one wil let us know, I was In the sports area looking in Rugby World but that only has 6 months here.

    Good luck everyone Tony

  • Doh! Received a letter from CapitalOne 2 weeks afer applying, but despite the word 'approved' being plastered all over the envelope and letter, they are only offering me an alternative card with 0% at 6 months, rather than the 18 month offer I applied for.

A phone call to them yielded no information, they refuse to discuss any reasons as to why I was turned down over the phone, but they said I can write in to appeal.

The only reason I can think of is that I've already got 3 other credit cards, but surely the whole point of a balance transfer offer is for people in just that sort of situation! I wonder if they're just trying t entice people in with the18 month offer, but only actually giving it to people they belive won't pay offthe balance by the end of the 0% period?

Oh well, I knew it was too good to be true :(

I initially received a letter saying my application was approved and that the balance transfer that I requested would be implemented within 10 working days.
On Thursday I received my cards which were attached to a form which quoted the rates at 0.97% per month on both purchases and balance transfers. Although there was a lot of bumph with the cards rthere was no mention whatsoever of the offer.
I rang the 0800 number given to activate the card and the female was only interested in selling me additional insurance. She told me that I had received the terms & conditions which would have detailled the offer seperately. I told her I had not that the only thing that I had signed and sent in was the intial application but she did not appear to believe me. She eventually put me on hold and I gave up after about five Beatle songs.
I rang back on a different 0800 customer service number on which I could electronically confirm that the balance transfer had taken place on the 8/10 and then spoke with a service rep who at first did not know about the 18month 0% (£100 to be spent before end of January 2005) offer but then was able to confirm that that was indeed the terms I had been accepted on. He agreed to send a copy of the full terms & conditions out to me. At least he was helpful and I noted his name and date & time of call for future reference.
So it all appears to be set up now but it only takes one obstructive/unhelpful member of staff to cause some feeling of customer dissatisfaction!
