Car insurance renewal

Shopping around after receiving my Admiral renewal premium last time, I was able to find a 40% reduction. It was with Elephant. Now, Admiral and Elephant are the same company (even their documents are almost identical), so I called Admiral fully expecting them to price-match because it all goes on the same bottom line. But they wouldn't go anywhereclose - only offered about 5% off.

I've found the local brokers are usually the best deal, and also the most helpful. One of them once told me that it was always worth getting a quote with the other half, as it usually reduces the premiums.0

I had my elephant renewal quote come through earlier this week for £275.00. Fully comp with business class use included in the policy.
I tried a number of companies and tried to get the quote down but had no luck, all were in the region of £300, so already I realised that I was getting quite a good deal.
However, I rang Elephant back and told them a little white lie. I told them that I had got a quote for £240.00. They put me on hold and came back and offered me my insurance for £220.00. Sneaky I know, but it worked and I managed to save myself £55.00 on the original quote.
Only wish, the renewal quote was the lowest price they could offer you - you shouldn't need to phone and haggle. So much, for customer loyalty huh!I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
I went from £1365 to £472 (Cornhill to Elephant)
Easy to get quotes of £600, but played Elephant, Liverpool Victoria & A.N.Other off against each other, and then got it for £472.
LET THEM CHASE YOU
You have to go through the full rigmarole of questions every time, but work it for the amount of money saved.0 -
If anyone is getting a Quote now or up till the 30th September then try this

You may get your policy for a £1.
In general reply to this thread its always worth while ringing around as many as possible every renewal time. Internet is ok and handy but often the sales operators can juggle the £ a little. It pays to talk! even if the web offers 5 to 10%!
Try end of month calls when call centres are struggling with targets, prices will often come down further.
Don't be disgusted if an insurer Quotes an inflated price, they are just Quoting themselves out of the market because you do not fall into their current category of customer. And always ensure you are getting a policy that offers similar products/cover when comparing prices.0 -

I was insured with Diamond when we lived in UK. Phoned to put Mr Sunshine on policy before we were married and the premium was less. I asked why and was told "statistically single people have more accidents" even though i was driving the car 95% of the time by myself!
But hey if it saves you £'s0 -
I notice that via
https://www.greasypalm.co.uk
Lloyds TSB (actually Churchill's) are offering 10% discount on their normal prices and greasypalm are offering a £60 (rather than £30) rebate! This is during August."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
I have just had my car insurance renewal through from Direct Line so I tried confused.com and have found quotes £40 cheaper . So as per the advice I called them to see if they would match it. I was told as I had not received a special leaflet they would not do match it - it was only sent to selected customers - certainly made me feel like my business was valued - NOT!!
So I'm going elsewhere for the time being and I'll look at them next year when they might give a nice discount for being a "new" customer0 -
