  • reading the original post you 'think' it is dodgy, you don't know for certain. a £20 can quite easily get a bit soggy and stuff over time, you can't tell until you test it with a proper note tester like we had when i worked in a shop, and even when they 'look' dodgy, they are often perfectly legitimate.
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

I work for as bank and had to confiscate a fake £20 off a customer this week.

Its a shame cos it has left him out of pocket when it's not his fault, but thats life unfortunately, and working for a bank, we're obliged to retain any fake notes and send them to the Bank of England for investigation.

I've never had a fake note myself as I usually check any change I get and having worked in a shop for years, I recognise fakes pretty easily now. Had a couple of fake £1 coins tho, I've just thrown them away, not worth the embarassment of getting caught trying to spend it anywhere.
  • hi i recently withdrew £40 from a royal bank of scotland cash machine and ordered a pizza , the delivery guy bought to my attention that they were fake , the delivery company have now got the police involved .
We obviously had no idea they were fake, they came from a cash machine !!!

    what do we do?
    someone please help !!!
  • I had a fake note passed to me a few months ago, was a very bad forgery too! The woman said she had got it from the cashpoint as well! We've been told to confiscate the note or write "forgery" or "fake" on it with the special pen.

  • I received a dodgy £20 from a cashpoint at a high street bank. Didn't notice til i tried to spend it. Took it back to the bank i got it from & they accused me of being the forger in front of a queue of people. I was so embarrassed, but refused to budge. I demanded they look at security footage & they backed down. It was HSBC in farnham.
Well done! Same happened to me with Barclays and I am also demanding they look at video footage. The banks will cast aspersions on your honesty but not acknowledge their staff can and do make mistakes.

This is a tough one for me.....I've always considered myself very honest, blah, blah, blah....

Some years ago, whilst not earning very much, I went and cashed my wages cheque in at the bank my agency had an agreement with and went to pay most of the proceeds into my bank account. One of the notes was rejected as a forgery and even though I explained where I had got it (Barclays!) and showed them the receipt from just a few mins earlier, I was told the note would have to be confiscated and passed to the police.....oh and tough luck to me as I had just lost what amounted to half my rent for the week as I would NOT be reimbursed (despite running back to Barclays and begging and pleading).

I was left with having to beg loans from my mates to save being handed an eviction notice and I never did get reimbursed for that note. So a bank passed me a dicky note and got away with it. Would I do the same? Dam* right I would!

    Sorry.
Barclays has come up a lot for passing counterfeit notes. Check this out:

  • I'm not sure if I could afford not to use it. Would I feel bad about it if I did use it? Yes.
Boris Johnson voted against Brexit in the Commons, all to become leader of the Conservative Party. Fall for it and you deserve everything you get.
  • I'd pass it off in Tesco - don't care what the law says on this one - just because something is law doesn't mean that it is right and that we should actually listen to it! is it still illegal not to practice archery on Sundays?? by the logic of some replies on here we had all better get our bows and arrows out......

  • I know this is an old thread, but someone else has just bumped it so I thought I'd add my voice to those who would try and pass it on. I'd use it at Tesco, not at, say, a corner shop.
