Has anyone else received a letter from a company called Tower Investigations? My wife got one today saying the following:
We act on behalf of a client and would be obliged if you could telephone us on Freephone (and then a 0800 number is given) in order to assist our enquiry.
There is no name given under the signature.
I've checked online and the website has no links or working email contact - http://www.towerinvestigations.com/
A bit worryingly is this link that I found
http://www.grumbletext.co.uk/vt.php?t=530&subj=lsh+2503+0816+complaints+Citibank+complaint&highlight=
Anyone got any idea what this is all about? Anyone else received one of these? Is it a scam as it seems to be?
Sorry if this is in the wrong place. All advice appreciated.

They are a debt recovery company, and previously have traded under the name of "TOWER DEBT RECOVERY LIMITED". They apparently work for Lloyds TSB amongst others (see: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=279331)
Both companies house and a whois (http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=towerinvestigations&tld=com) list their address as:
UNITS 2B & 2C CARTWRIGHT COURT
BRADLEY BUSINESS CENTRE
DYSONWOOD WAY
HUDDERSFIELD HD2 1GN
If the email address info@towerinvestigations.com doesn't work, I suggest trying it@towerinvestigations.com as this is what is listed on the domain whois.0 -
Only Tower Investigations I know of are those into the Twin Towers of 9/11 which a lot of people are beginning to realise was an inside job and very little to do with terrorists.0

pretty unlikely to be the latter one im thinking.....0

Thanks for that. Got no debt at all so I assume they are at it. Looks like they have got a database of names off the electoral roll and are after someone specific so they fire out bland letters to anyone that has a slightly similar name.
Either that or the missus has a shoebox full of final demands that she's been keeping from me...0 -
I'm curious if there were any developments on this later.
I've had a letter from Tower and rang them. They said they were looking for a chap with the same surname as me in a completely different part of the country, but since he had a relative with the same forename as me, they were writing to my address. I explained there was no connection and that was (apparently) the end of it. Clearly, they are scouring the electoral rolls and chugging out these standard letters in an effort to catch this bloke.
Unless they are secretly out for me.
While their business motivation may be acceptable, the 'scam' feel to their letters is not very helpful, possible even intimidating to some.0 -

Hi
We had a problem with this company just before last Christmas. The first contact was a letter dated 1st December from a company called Tower Investigations Ltd, (Private Investigators, Surveillance Specialists and Genealogical Experts) asking my husband to 'phone. He called immediatedly (secretly thinking some long lost unknown relative had left a fortune lol).
They said 'right we've tracked you down now, you will be receiving a letter from our client shortly'. He asked them to explain the tracking down bit, and who the client was, to be told he had been 'in hiding' for years, how many they wouldn't specify, and would not say the name of their 'client'. Very strange as we are on the electoral roll, have a mortgage, bank accounts etc. Still have never had an explanaition for that comment.
Then follows a letter dated 3rd December saying he owed a company called Cabot (HFC). It stated he owed £2,733.18, but if we were good and paid by the 24th December they would take a payment of £1,365.00. How kind of Mr G Bell, Collections Manager. Strangley both Tower Investigations and Global Debt operate from the same building in New Malden, Surrey.
My husband knows catagorically that he never had any sort of loan or owed any money to anyone. We called Trading Standards and the Credit Licence Authority, to be told these were a legitimate company.
Mr Bell would not offer any information as to who his client was, (Cabot (HFC) means nothing to us, we even searched the web looking for clues) where they were based, when this supposed debt was taken out or what it was for.
Then another letter dated the 3rd December, saying the debt has been lodged against our address. Trading Standards told us this was rubbish as they had to take us to court first.
Then another letter dated 29th December saying call Mr Bell immediately to 'discuss' the debt, again my husband 'phoned, they would still not offer any information about the debt. My husband basically told them to go to hell as we wern't about to be conned, they could just do their worst.
Then another letter dated 5th January saying they were unaware of any reason why payment had been witheld and it was now going to affect our credit rating adversly.
Mr Bell is an aggresive man, he totally lacks any telephone manners, and talks over anything you try to say to him. Although he has nothing much to offer but threats.
My husband 'phoned yet again and threw a complete blue fit at him and demanded that he either say what this was all about or they cease to harrass us.
Mr Bell then went quiet and said he was about to contact my husband and tell him the debt was of no concern to him anymore. No apology, no explanaition. Just they wern't interested in persuing him for the debt anymore.
I would advise anyone who receives letters from these muppets to stand firm. If you know you don't owe a penny, I promise they will not be able to come up with the evidence. They are bullies and think people are stupid enough to had over money when they can't even tell you what the debt was for, when it was taken out, proper name for a company, absolutally zilch!
We have had no further contact from them.0 -
Even if you do owe money to anyone, it could come under the statute barred limitations if you have had no contact with them for over 6 years so I wouldn't admit to anything until you find out exactly what it is about.0

A letter has come to my house with a different name to mine.
The number they have given me is 0800 8778764 which is wrong.
Has anybody got there real number???
I would like to ring them and tell them they have the wrong address.
Thankyou0
