Tower Investigations?

I have received a letter at a very old address where I no longer live (my friends live there now, this is how I know) asking for my whereabouts. I now live in two other countries overseas and have no intention of moving back to the uk. I have an idea they are after a debt which i think is at least seven years old from another country as I have paid off all my other debt which took me several years. The problem is I am now studying and have no money. I want to find out what it is they are after but dont want them to have my details of where I am now. I have been registered on the electrol roll and had lots of other credit in the uK for years and dont know why they are after me now. Any advice would be great, I have contacted national debt advice line via email but waiting for there reply.0

Any letters recieved from Tower Investigations is a scam, i would advise anyone who recieves a letter to throw it away.
It will tell you to call on behalf of a client, then continue to tell you owe money. It is all false. It is a scam.
I will be contacting trading standards.
Hope this is helpful.0 -

The cat is currently playing with it, he's done some fine hole-punching of it indeed!:D
I shan't be calling them. If they think I owe them money, they can try writing - they'll get a very firmly worded letter in reply!!
xx
I received my 2nd letter from Tower Investigations today, to date I have not phoned them. As usual it just says "We act on behalf of a client" etc etc.
Other than standard loans from banks and credit cards (which I am currently paying off, or have previously paid off in full) I have no past debt. I fear this may be a case of their either scamming me or they are trying to collect a debt with someone from a similar name to me.
Firstly, am I right in thinking I have no legal obligation to contact these people whatsoever since it is not a court letter and there are not court appointed?
Secondly, in the exceptionally unlikely event that this IS anything to do with a past unpaid debt of mine (99% sure it isn't) they surely have to provide full details in writing of the debt?
As soon as I phone the number I get the feeling the "bullying" will really start so I am tempted to keep the 2 letters they sent me but do not reply or phone them at this stage. If they are even remotely genuine I think they have to provide more details than this in writing before they can honestly expect me to respond._____________________________________________0 -
This is interesting. I received a Tower Investigations letter yesterday, exactly as described above. I was googling them when I found this MSE thread.
The problem is for me is that I have got debts (recent ones, not past the 6 years) and am currently in the process of making arrangments with creditors and putting together a DMP. So, all my creditors are in the loop with my situation, I can't see the cause for this companies involvement.
If they do work for Lloyds TSB as mentioned a few times here, I am in regular contact with them and again don't see the need for this.
The letter was sent to my old business address (ceased to trade, hence the debts!) - all mail is being redirected to my home address. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they track me down at home. Should I reply to them via letter and ask for the client details/proof of debt? I don't fancy phoning after reading others experience of it!
Despite the vagueness of it, it is hard not to be worried when these things land on your doorstepPround to be dealing with my debts! DFW Nerd # 1201

Yep! Today I also received this letter - and....i too thought that a long lost relative had died and left me some lovelies!! Hmmmm. Rang the number to get an answering machine which prompted me to leave my name, number and reference - which I did!
Having thought about it more, I obviously decided to do some research and found this forum!
My god! I feel stupid!
Slightly worried as a few years back (maybe 4) I defaulted on a credit card. I keep my experian credit report close to hand and that says to me no outstanding debts so surely it has been written off?
I believe that this company somehow get information on people with adverse credit ratings. Then they pi$$ in the wind by sending out these letters to shake people up! Their circumstances may have changed since their financial problems and they may be able to finally pay back what they owed years ago - when in fact they don't need to? These guys i believe are chancers....and have no balls to back it up!
Letter now in the bin - anymore I receive will certainly follow - kiss my !!! i say!
Thank you all for putting me in the light!0 -
Hi.Just got my third letter today,or should I say the turd one. The first one went to the polis, but heard nothing so ignored the second. My own thoughts are why haven't they been closed down.Scum like that should be brought to book surely.
I have't been in contact with them as I would only burst a vessle or something.
Unbelieveable that they have been trading for over ten years.
I'll keep watching this space.

I too have had a letter to my house today, although I live there alone and my name certainly isn't David Thomas (unless i've changed sex) neither is it anything close. I did actually open this in error and was about to return to sender when inquisitively I looked them up and after reading this thread am glad I did....
I have debts from an ex partner from about 8 years ago that I couldn't pay, I haven't been in touch with them in about 8 years also as he was meant to be paying them? Am I still liable for these? I was told by a solicitor to ignore them (hush hush) and they after 6 years cannot approach me which I have done.
I now am in control of my finances and am about to start up my own business..
Can someone please help??0 -
I received the letter a couple of weeks ago addressed to someone else.
Then this morning had a call from them Ended up as a bit of a barny with a scots fella on the phone. The convesation went like this:
Him: Hello is Brenda there?
Me: No one by that name here.
Him: Brenda Joyce?
Me: Er no.
Him (disbelieving tone): You sure you don't know Brenda.
Me: Er No
Him: Is this......<states my address>
Me: Who is this?
Him: Can you give me your name?
Me: Er no, not until you tell me who you are.
Him: How long have you been at the address?
Me: I've not giving you any information as I don't know who you are.
Him: <long pause> I work for a credit agency. Can you give me some details. What is your full name?
Me: No, this is nothing to do with me, I have nothing to do with this. What will you use my information for?
Him: No need to be like that about it, if you can't be civil.
I then tried to tell him I'd lived at the address over ten years and he just talked over me. I then just hung up.
A few seconds later her rung up and simply said, "that wasn't nice David" and hung up.
I was furious, he already knew my name but was talking to me like a criminal.
I found the letter rang up and had another barny with him. He said that that he no longer wanted to continue the conversation. I can't believe that he was so so rude. He rang up to ask for my help then got defensive and aggressive when I questioned his motives.
Defo a ltter to the OFT in the offing!

Now I think about it, this week we have received two phone calls supposedly conducting surveys. One of them was the person I spoke to today, I knew I recognised his voice. I told them we were on Telephone Preference Service, and they said that applied to sales not surveys. The sneaky, under hand sods!0

I received one of these letters this morning and, despite the advice given, I decided to phone them. The guy at the other end was not rude or aggressive (although sounded a little dim) and told me that they were trying to trace someone with my name who used to live in Tunbridge Wells, apparently becase they have some undelivered mail for him! I told him that I'd never lived in Tunbridge Wells so it couldn't be me. He appologised for troubling me and said that they would not contact me again. Of course this remains to be seen, but, if anyone getting one of these letters is worried about it, you may want to consider phoning them as it could end up being something simple like this.
I will add to this post if I hear anything further from them.0
