Tower Investigations?

  • They seem to work with/from HFC.
They send letters to all registered surnames in the area until someone replies and then they pester them for information.
My parents received the same letter but addressed to my daughter at their address, my mother phoned them to tell them that she didn't know where my daughter was and she had no contact with her in 4 years.( a student computer loan through HFC is the only debt my daughter had when she moved to Ireland then USA) since then there have been 3 phone calls the last of which my father answered and went like this:-
Your granddaughterdaughter ordered a curry to the house and paid by credit card, 2 weeks ago.
    "No"
    Sorry 2 months ago
"No, we haven't had any contact with our granddaughter in 4 years"
    Maybe you should visit specsaver.
"You will be hearing from my lawyer"
There is no need for that attitude just tell us where we can contact her and you won't hear from us again.
"I won't hear from you again or you will hear from my lawyer"
Why are you being so aggressive?
"Because I was called a liar by a thug"
There is no need for you to take that attitude
"I have had enough of this conversation...do not ever phone this number or send any letters to this address again"
Phone hung up and so far no further communications.
It seems they either chase debt for HFC or buy it from them but then spend time using the standard letter to anyone they can until they get a reply. A debt is only time-barred if you know this law so they can try to collect it for any number of years.
  • I was recently issued with a letter from Tower Investigations spouting the same bumpf as what you good people have had. For some reason I felt the urge to call them (admittedly the geneolgy bit threw me) and was treated to some snot nose, arrogant little talkystick hitler on the other end offering his opinion and little else.

After that, I received a letter from Global Debt Recovery which is now beginning to frustrate me somewhat.

I had a loan from Barclays bank 11 years ago which, when I lost my job I couldn't pay and, as according to Lloyds TSB who ran a background financial check on me when I opened my new account with them, is now Statue Barred and my credit record is clear.

However, Global Debt recovery have now got my number from Tower Investigations and are beginning to harrass me like the days of old. The representative on their side sounds like some shady finance assassin and not pleasant or helpful at all, but the the big thing is, if this is statue barred, why the hell are the chasing me?

Is it possible they've bought the original debt from someones old information or what? It's really starting to bring me down as I'm just starting to rebuild my life
  • does anyone have any insight on this?

If you have made no payments or had any communications with the creditor in 6 years, then I believe it is statute barred

This link has a template letter which should help to get them off your backs and also the thread has further info on statute barred debts.

Sounds like they are trying to pull a swift one to me, especially as you say your credit record is clear.

Hope this helps a bit, good luck! :)

    Hi,

I also received the same letter, i tried to ring the freephone number from my mobile but it would not work.
Have no idea what it's about, but i'm going to try and find out.

They seem to be chancers attempting to gain from those who have known debts/have had debts in the past and trying to scare them into paying off something that either doesn't even exist or something not even anything to do with the original debt at all.

I filed mine in the B.I.N :) and I have not heard anything from them since. That was over a year ago.

Only Tower Investigations I know of are those into the Twin Towers of 9/11 which a lot of people are beginning to realise was an inside job and very little to do with terrorists.

    Amen to that

Tower Investigations - WOW what an absolute d**k he is!
I spend a lot of time on the phone in my job, and had already read these posts before calling so was on guard. Suffice to say I was not prepared for him.!

He asked me to tell me name and date of birth etc
I told him that seen as he seems to know me he should tell me!
He was not at all happy but confirmed my DOB to me instead
He tells me I owe someone some money
    I tell him I don't
We go back and forwards like this for a bit
I tell him I have read all about his silly company on the internet and am well aware of his scan techniques
He says all the posts on the internet are by little fraudsters trying to get away with debts!!! He looses his temper big time
It was actually funny "stop screaming at me" he's saying over and over - bearing in mind I am sat in an office full of people I am not even raising my voice.
I eventually say "OK then you talk - I will listen"
He waffles on and on about how I owe someone money, though he can't provide me details etc etc etc
I speak - big mistake "stop screaming at me" he says and puts the phone down.
Now I am very annoyed - I call straight back
Listen you just tell me the number of the other company I need to call to get info please

I call the number for Global Debt Whatever and funnily enough the guy answering the phone there sounds just the same. I enjoy explaining to this man how awful the 'previous' man was! This man is much nicer in a really creepy gonna get you kind of way.

Anyway apparently I owe a bank £200 from 1997. I tell him I have never banked with that bank. He explains how very "lucky" I am that the bank is not charging me interest too. This debt should be thousands by now!!!! I tell him to send some evidence as I never used that bank, he says he will invoice me. Nice. I also tell him that the address he has for me I no good as I don't live there.

I now await any further rubbish from them, can't wait! Though its really stressing the lady that lives a the old address out as its nothing to do with her!

WARNING - do not use your own phone to call them - they (Global) will save the number you call from! Always withhold or go to payphone
  • I had a letter from Tower Investigations asking me to call them on 0800 8778 767.

Here is the deal: these guys are agents who are (amongst other things) commissioned to chase debts. Simple as that.

If you are not in debt you have nothing to fear. They are probably writing to you because you have the same name as a person who is in debt, or because a person who is in debt used to live at your address. Just call these guys and get it cleared up. I guess there is an outside chance that someone may have cloned your identity so, if you can’t bring yourself to call them out of common courtesy, call them just to be sure that someone isn’t racking up debts in your name. The sooner you get it sorted the better.

Be sensible - don’t volunteer any details - especially not bank details. I sincerely doubt that these guys have sinister motives, but that’s beside the point. I don’t care if you’ve got Mother Theresa on the line – never give out your personal details to anyone.

If you are in debt, do the rest of us a favour and pay up. You are the reason that honest people have to put up with receiving letters like these, and we are the ones that end up paying your debts. If you think you are only ripping off the banks, you are just plain stupid. Banks do not make losses. When dishonest people default on their loans, the banks pass the losses onto their honest customers in the form of higher charges and interest rates. This puts you on a par with benefit cheats and cockroaches.

Although I will not get into the debate of debtors/how people get into debt/the circumstances that people find themselves in when they are unable to pay off their debts etc etc, I am compelled to point out that your implied comment 'HulaHoop' about only "dishonest people" having debts is completely uncalled for and unnecessary. And ignorant.
