What else did you do that day OP?

Would be helpful if you were seen at work a few hours later - somewhere with lots of witnesses that you couldn't possibly have got back to in time from Coventry?

Find any evidence that you can like this. Then, if it was me, I would write a letter to their office stating that I did not order a taxi on that day, nor was I aware of any taxi picking up anyone from outside my house and that the taxi driver never knocked. Explain you have witnesses to prove that you weren't in Coventry that day and that any threats or intimidation will be passed on to the police.

Don't answer your phone to them again (if you recognise their number), and certainly don't answer your door to them.

They have now started ringing me on a mobile number and on there local number being 707070, and being that I work from home its quite difficult as i have my own little office, but at that time i was in bed with my girlfriend, and she's the only one who can confirm that..

Can I ask whose account was it booked under? If it was under the college and the passenger used the OP's name, surely the taxi co must have had a booking reference or account number?

In any event, I think I would be speaking to a solicitor by now.

The problem is though i can't go down there office, as its in a Industrial estate and the fact that its quite a huge one, and they don't have anyone turning up there.
That phone number does not correspond to an industial estate though?

Log all the phone calls, should they persist then you have evidence of harassment to give to the police, I would also get in touch with BT and get their number blocked.

    Protection from Harassment Act :
    1 Prohibition of harassment.E+W

(1)A person must not pursue a course of conduct—
(a)which amounts to harassment of another, and
(b)which he knows or ought to know amounts to harassment of the other.
(2)For the purposes of this section, the person whose course of conduct is in question ought to know that it amounts to harassment of another if a reasonable person in possession of the same information would think the course of conduct amounted to harassment of the other.
(3)Subsection (1) does not apply to a course of conduct if the person who pursued it shows—
(a)that it was pursued for the purpose of preventing or detecting crime,
(b)that it was pursued under any enactment or rule of law or to comply with any condition or requirement imposed by any person under any enactment, or
(c)that in the particular circumstances the pursuit of the course of conduct was reasonable.

    2 Offence of harassment.E+W

(1)A person who pursues a course of conduct in breach of section 1 is guilty of an offence.
(2)A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or both.

One way I would approach this matter is to formally write to them. State where you were that night, that you did not call for a taxi from your home or mobile, and that you deny all their claims. Inform them that any communication written or oral from them suffice to say that the matter is either closed or they wish to pursue you through the small claims court will be regarded as harassment and will be reported accordingly.

Should they persist in contacting you providing you have kept details of when they have called etc, you can then put them under notice of intended court action for harassment. A MCOL claim costs about £25 I think upto £300 or £35 upto £500...something like that.

Surely if you go to the police station, dont call, and tell them someone is impersonating you and racking up massive taxi bills they might at least visit the taxi office. Identity fraud should be taken seriously.
If the taxi firm have your name, address telephone number, and the person who ordered it just happens to pick the name of someone who used to Barking college and say it's on their account. More than a conincidence and if its not you its got to be someone who knows you pretty well.

Imagine that. Some Taxi firms have drivers and owners with criminal convictions. I wonder what would attract such types to a mainly cash business, with a high percentage of activity carried out in the hours of darkness, by people who rarely give out receipts and only have to prove they have a semi-clean driving licence.
  • Quite scary how i just gave the number as 707070 and people find them!

But they have recently been took over by a mainly foreign company A1

But the Account was indeed Barking College
