Taxi Company ringing me up for Money

I'd call the local police station, explain the situation and explain that you appreciate it is a civil matter, but that this individual has:

    a) already committed a criminal act in threatening you; and
    b) has announced their intention of committing a further criminal act in the form of a home visit with the simple intention of intimidating you into paying something which you dispute.

If there's a copper in your front room when he comes around and makes a threat, it'll be a short sharp trip to the clink, I'd suggest very strongly you follow this course of action.

Even if by some bizarre set of circumstances you were genuinely liable for this alleged debt, and it sounds that you are not and simply a victim of fraud, the 'big boss' of the taxi company has absolutely no right to try to make financial demands with menaces in this way.

There are plenty of pieces of law preventing this, many of them result in criminal prosecutions. Use them.

    What threat?

So you think they will send an officer to spend the day just in case?

If you can't see an implied threat in the initial telephone discussion then perhaps law isn't for you.

Your sarcasm about sending an officer around is not warranted either. Clearly if a complaint is made to the police they are obliged to examine it, which in term will lead them to question the taxi company mentioned in the original post.

While I can't make any direct statements about the way that the taxi company will feel about this, the implication that the original poster is not someone who will sit around idly and be bullied should in itself prove sufficient to deter further concerns about physical intimation and lead the taxi company to, if it feels it has a genuine civil case, take the matter to the small claims court.

I appreciate that forums can be seen as an outlet to mock others but in this case I was attempting to be genuinely helpful. I'd suggest you may consider doing likewise.
Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.

Sending the boss round to get his money?

Doesn't necessarily imply anything unlawful will take place.

At best the police will take brief details and tell the op to ring back if they come round causing problems.

Why would they say that to someone asking for their help over someone intimidating them at their home?

I was making a bit of a sarcastic remark towards the police, sorry I thought it was obvious.

  • Sorry everyone for the delayed and late responses, They ended up coming round to my house [Saturday] and basically threatening to say that they will be back on Monday for the money! as i denied all knowlege of the journey which they stated; I said one of my family members will be here on Monday talk it to them, they can confirm where i was at that time!

They went well that isn't good enough we want the Cash, or we will be waiting for you,

I have therefore contacted the police, but like a poster said earlier, they have turned round and told me it is a civil matter!!

 So im left in a bombshell about what to do!

The police should still take the fact that you have been threatened and feel harrassed & intimidated seriously. Did they at least allow you to make a report about it so that if anything does happen then there's something to follow up on? If not, get back on and ask to make one.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Don't let the police off the hook, say you want to pursue being harrassed by this person.

The dispute over the money may well be a civil matter. But harrassment certainly isn't.

Have you a chain on your door?

You don't need to answer the door to them, you don't need to answer the phone if they ring.

And otherwise, I'd record any contact you have with them - many mobile phones and mp3 players have the functionality to be able to do so - may not be good enough in a court of law, but should be good enough in terms of showing / playing to the police should you need to convince them that you are being harrassed.
